Ok. I really didn't get what was so good or scary about the movie. It was interesting at first, but it too over an hour before she killed her first victim and there's not much to her personality. I think she's boring and the end doesn't make sense: The body moves? Did she imagine that? Also, she cuts out her eye to give the body an eye? It just doesn't seem focused. Perhaps if it didn't take too long for the violence then there could been more story and interest.

While no masterpiece of horror, May tells the story of perhaps the most relatable psycho in the modern slasher genre. Unlike Freddy Krueger or Mike Myers from Halloween, you witness May experiencing bullying as a child as a result of a lazy eye and wearing a patch, at becoming friendless, outcast and awkward. She grows up to be a weird woman who longs for friendship, intimacy and a boyfriend. Sex too. May becomes infatuated with Adam, a film school dropout and has a sexual fling. But he is turned off at her kink for red and the relationship ends. Rejected, in a tantrum she brutalizes her doll collection. (Quite honestly I know Sri Lankan girl called Savithri who's reacted more psychopathic than that!)Driven by her desire to get back with Adam, she begins to stalk him, calling him and leaving awkward and weird phone messages. (Again something many woman might relate to, am I right ladies?!) Eventually when her favourite doll is destroyed her obsession spirals out of control. She kills her cat and stuffs it in the freezer and goes on a killing spree killing a lesbian co-worker and her girlfriend. Eventually she murders Adam too. Carting their body parts in an icebox she takes them home to sew together a friend. In the end, to give it life, she cuts out one of her own eyes. Aww. Honestly, how can you not feel for poor little ol' May?

This one had me biting my fingers! I appreciate movies that use creativity instead of millions of dollars to intrigue an audience. The characters were nuanced and well acted. This movie falls into a sort of sub-genre that I call little gems. The movie had a budget of only 500k! There are movies that cost 200 million that have me twiddling my thumbs and begging for the end to come. Inevitably these big block busters get rave reviews and make more hundreds of millions. I love little hidden gems like this one. I really have to hand it to the director who took a real good story and married it perfectly with the lead actress' ability. It brought forth a character that I absolutely fell in love with and a movie that rocked. Ten stars is a generous rating but I give extra stars because it was a little gem.

"May", is pretty good. Too bad I had already seen a 2011 rip-off called "Alyce Kills", so I knew exactly what was going to happen. But I guess in 2002 it was fresh and surprising. What really did for me was a bunch of surprising lines. "Want to watch me file?"; "I don't think she could have bit the whole finger in just one bite, that part was far- fetched"; "That was sweet" (after seeing something bizarre); "reading about amputation just for fun"; "my dog had for legs, and when I came back from vacation one of them was missing".Just as in Alyce Kills, the movie has two very different halves. It is very tricky to keep both exciting, since they appeal to the viewer in such different ways - some people would wish the first half just got to the point already, while others will say the movie went downhill after the midpoint. I guess you can't help it, with this structure. The writer tried to solve this problem filling the first half with lots and lots of foreshadowing, but that resulted in predictability, now unity. I suppose you can make a sub-genre out of "May", but it needs some twists and new elements. Maybe one good element that can be pushed farther is more freakishness in the characters around May? There is already something here, that can be more explored. I like the idea of sickos surrounded by other sickos from which you don't know what to expect, like "House on the Edge of the Park", by Deodato. A twist near the end would help a lot. But it only came in the last 10 seconds. Though excellent, it wasn't enough. Also, a director that can create more mood. The movie is based on cringe, but it needs more.I obviously liked the movie. I hope someone can create something even creepier, more deranged and more unpredictable from this structure. I just want even more of what worked.
