This is a very good movie. The character development is great and the tension seems unbearable at times. Its a movie that has more affect with the second viewing because once u know the outcome, you can see every little creepy nook and cranny. This film follows a young and probably immature girl who goes on a vacation with her older cousin and a few of her older friends. This girl thought she would have fun but it turns out she just couldn't handle it. There are many things that remind me of my childhood, as I have been in the shoes of the protagonist and the antagonist at times. That moment when ur surround by older kids and you think they are always laughing at you. Or that moment when you are the older kid and can tell the girl is uncomfortable but keep it up for no reason. Just cuz ur older and apparently to you, cooler too. Being isolated and feeling trapped can cause a person to really lose their grip especially when they are struggling to fit in. But this movie is so much more than that. The film slowly builds to an extreme level of tension and as the viewer you are scared to see what happens next. Its an example and testament to times when you think you have a clue but you don't. The older kids were certain they knew what Alicia needed. They were a little too certain, for tge wrong reason. They didn't really read the signs. This is a powerful movie for youths to watch. A powerful message on bullying and a powerful message on paranoia, Magic, Magic truly stands tall in its genre. It IS a horror movie and in the best kind of way possible.

When a mixed group of Amreican and Chilean youths travel to a remote island in Soputh America, they soon lose their equilibrium - indeed, we're pretty much in 'Blair Witch' territory here, as panic descends in spite of the absence of any explicit external cause. Some people may inherently dislike watching a movie full of squealing teenagers, but director Sebastien Silva shows some skill here, as the innate tensions among the characters drive the increasing deterioration in their mood and well-being. In fact, I really liked the beginning; the end (in which something must, inevitably, be conjured out of nothing) feels a little more random, and insufficiently grounded in what went before.

To say I enjoyed the film implies the wrong responsive emotions. It is a very dark film: immediate stimulation, clear cut answers and jump scares do not come into it at all. The film is based around the concept of paranoia and anxiety, as experienced by the main character Alicia. The idea is that Alicia begins mentally unstable, then due to circumstance and unintended aggravation she quickly spirals downward. I am glad I watched this film and can honestly say I never found it tedious. I love the genuinely caring and involved friendship between Sarah and Alicia. I feel as though friendships are either watered down or made very 2-dimensional in many films. It is always usually about the love interests and other more intense relationships. Though I honestly love seeing warm, intense and in depth friendships played out on screen. As was seen in this Movie. Do not be perturbed by the 5 star rating! This film is worth a watch!

I'm a big fan of Emily Browning (in fact Sleeping Beauty was a brilliant indie film that she stars in) the entire cast did a fantastic job acting-wise. HOWEVER, this script went absolutely NOWHERE and it is one of those artsy-fartsy endings that was written specifically just to be artsy-fartsy.. Vague and unclear... This in NO WAY was a horror film so i don't know why anyone would bill it that way. I wouldn't even call it a psychological thriller because there were no "thrills" in it. I think the writer of this script smokes peyote or crack on a regular basis.. I'd like the hour and a half back of my life that i wasted watching this film !
