Zack Snyder's first animated feature. You know what that means. Dark and lackluster plotting predicated by his inveterate practice of tacky slow-motion. But seriously, if anybody can get you to love a slo-mo sequence, it's Zack Snyder. It's like a guilty pleasure, watching his films. Bolstered by strong animation from Animal Logic, you have a gorgeous feast for your eyes. While Snyder's films typically miss the emotional mark, you can still count on a good time. He will always be that director with the fun-to-watch films, so long as you're not expecting much else. Sometimes fun is enough. 6.5/10 — watching Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.

The mediocre reviews for this movie really astonished me back in 2010 when it was released. "Gahoole" for me, was an amazing cinematic experience. 6 years later, after watching it again in high-def quality I felt compelled to add my praise for this absolute gem. Here are some of the high points:The story may seem unoriginal at first, and in terms of "good versus evil" it is. However, there are important themes underneath like prejudice and racism which gives the plot a more contemporary and important meaning. Although the setting is an almost exclusively owl inhabited world, these themes transcend surprisingly well into our human world. The voice acting is spot on, in fact one of the best in the genre, especially Joel Edgerton (Metal Beak) and Geoffrey Rush (Ezylryb). But what really stands out is the animation itself, both in terms of visual effects and the direction. Many scenes of the owls in flight are simply breathtaking. The owls and the world they inhabit are so detailed and diverse that they come alive on the screen. The only negative aspect in this movie was the music. While the orchestral themes are beautifully interwoven with the scenes, the choice to use modern teen popular music does not comply at all with the general mood and setting of the film. In summation, this is a movie that must be seen by all generations. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is not the best movie in general in this genre, but in terms of visual craftsmanship it is unparalleled.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is one of the most crisp, smart, and entertaining animated films I've ever seen! The dialogue, script, voice acting, and the animation design in and of itself is all so high quality. Nothing less than the best from this film! The storyline really caught me and captivated me. It's also funny at certain moments, and then it's frightening at others. The fight sequences and the action is all very exciting and fun to watch on the big screen. There are even certain plot twists that are pretty neat and cool, but I will not spool them for you, you will have to trust me and tune in for yourselves! And My goodness, I'm shocked this film didn't get some major awards for its stunning visuals! Just by the poster you can tell that it is most definitely a visually stunning movie to enjoy! This family targeted animation is definitely one you will not wanna miss. It's one of the greatest, go and see for yourself that I'm telling the truth ;) 9/10.

I haven't read the books but it is definitely on my reading list. I highly enjoyed this movie and was surprised at how non-kid oriented it was. That isn't to say kids won't enjoy it at all, it just wasn't watered down the way most animated movies are nowadays so that the kids can follow along. The animation was breathtaking, the plot was a lot more detailed and intricate than I expected, and you felt like you were being taken on a journey into another world...which is exactly what movies should do. I loved the accents for the owls and their different personalities. My favorite animal happens to be owls so I was very excited to see this. All in all: kids will love it, adults will be entertained, and its just a good all around movie.
