You can make a documentary about agriculture in current scenario and the problems faced by the farmers, but that will not reach masses in the proper sense. But A.R.Murugadoss through his screenplay he had mixed commercial elements to create a public awareness about the issues farmers facing in Tamil nadu. Actor vijay had handled the dual role with brilliant acting. The consequence after this movie was too such a extent, it had connected it with the protest happened in Chennai for jallikattu and now here in Tamil nadu 80% of the shopkeepers refuse to sell Pepsi and Coca-Cola. Since those companies suck excess of water from the drought facing Tamil nadu.
... View MoreHi guys this is my second review on IMDb. The best movie by Vijay & Team murugadoss combined by the super BGM by Anirudh. this one the best movie of vijay I ever saw although I was not a fan of vijay but wanted to write this review about this movie superb story about the farmer's life.Vijay has used this opportunity to play superb roles in this movie and proves he is good action hero and as a performer and as an entertainer. While Kathir is high on theatrics and is the Vijay that we have enjoyed on screen in many mass entertainers, Jeeva is fresh and non-Vijay in every aspect. Kathir is bound to be a fan favorite while the audiences are likely to empathize with Jeeva and his motives. In that aspect, Kaththi is a strong movie for Vijay.Director A.R.Murugadoss has done a very job once again touched upon many issues close to his heart such as rampant corruption, farmer suicides, the plight of senior citizens, water scarcity, the workings of the sensational news-hungry media and also goes on to vilify the corporates and their aggressive expansion plans without considering their CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiatives. The one scene late in the second half, when Vijay delivers an intense speech on media & about the corruption in India, is a definite highlight in the overall scheme of things. But it does try to get a little manipulative as the director has played to the gallery to win the audience's heart.Coming to fight scene again murugadoss did added some more salt & pepper to the movie unless like other vijay's movies we get bored and frustrated but this was some what logical coin fight that nobody expected but we can always expect some like this kind of scenes from murugadoss.Overall best kind of movie a must watch movie for all city peoples who really doesn't care about farmer's life and even doesn't care about water usage 10 stars for the message 10 stars for Vijay's extraordinary speech slapping on the face of media's**********************
... View MoreThe film starts with the slow paced story line which might make the audience to feel as if that this is going to be usual Vijay's commercial flick. Later after 15-20 minutes of running the film actually starts and take us into the plot. Being very much fond of farming, I always aim to become a farmer. As this plot is about the issues faced by farmers in real time, the movie has clearly explained the current situation of corporate world and the farmers. The scene where few farmers die to create hype in the media so as to help Jeevanantham(Vijay) was well planned and shot thereby explaining the real time happenings in the Media world. Recommend everyone to watch this film as this has a strong social message though it has some slow pace portions and few misplaced songs within it.
... View MoreI was encouraged to watch the movie and many friends recommended it on the lines that if you liked Ramana, you will like this movie. But for some reason, I found the script totally lacking common sense and showed the lack of depth in knowledge of the writers of the plot. The plot is centered around the struggles of villagers versus MNC(Corporate). The word MNC and corporate are overused in the movie, that it left such a bad taste to me. Maybe it would have been nice if someone explained Economics 101 to the writers of this movie. My distaste for the movie stems from the simplicity with which commercial Tamil movie makers want to handle the script - black versus white. Heroes versus villains. A lot of movies these days have transcended such stereotyping showing all possible greys, but this movie should have been made like 40 years ago, and then possibly it would have deserved all the praise. In fact a basic fact check would disprove the premise of the whole movie. Farmers earn more when they sell their land to acquiring corporates. It is simple market mechanism. If a beverage company dries out a river, it just means, we people are lazy and like to indulge in carbonated drinks. As long as there is demand, you cannot villify the firms for it. On a sidenote, both Pepsi and Coke follow sustainable practices for most part, and I would encourage the writers to check about it. And the farmers are none the poorer for selling their land to acquiring firms. See all the farmers driving BMWs in Gurgaon. And please for Godsake, companies do not collude as shown in the movie. If you want to switch off the real world and enjoy a masala cum emotional movie, then you will probably like this one. But please please do not come from the movie hall thinking the plot is real or even close to reality.
