The word "Kareeb" itself bears a romantic tag on it.But it is not a typical 90's Hindi movie. For me it is one of the romantic movie in the history of Indian Cinema. It has everything not only the romantic side but also the comedy and sad part. The actors have done a great job.And the last lottery drama was also great.I really loved the movie and it is my one of the most favorite movie of all time.
... View MoreNeha fits into the character exceedingly well. Her no make-up look, her innocent voice only adds to the character. Bobby is good too but I wont say he was the best suited for this role. Johny Lever was a bit repitative and Shaurabh Shukla does add to the humor in the story with his acting skills. This movie is only for those who like innocent romantic cinema. Watch it for one of the most innocent looking actress of 90's in both Bollywood and Hollywood. But what must be truly appreciated is the cinemategraphy and music of the movie. If the romance comes out so beautifully in this movie all the credit must go to the above two departments. Specially the scene at lake with all those burning lamps is one of the finest shots ever taken in a Hindi movie. All the songs inspite of being very situtional are pleasant to ears. Some well known philosopher has said the most difficult thing in this world is to keep things simple and yet effecitve. And this is what Kareeb nearly achieves excepts for some blips towrads the end. Still at heart Kareeb is carrying a very simple tale of love which is held under siege not by some ugly and frieghtening villain but by situation arised out of lies. its beauty lies in the simplicity of the story-telling and the pureness of its characters which one can see through Neha's eyes. Birju played by Bobby may be a liar but at heart he is a nice man who wants his love at any cost even if he has to tell lies or steal money.
... View MoreYes, this movie is romantic, Yes the story starts by boy and girl falling in love, Yes it happens in all romantic stories. But where this movie stands apart is the treatment and picturisation of of story that is so touching and mesmerizing that you immediately connect to the small town guy, that is Birju. Songs are simply fabulous and remain in my play-list till this day. the innocent and heartfelt portrayal of characters brings the story alive and melodious music keeps enchanting you long after you finish watching it. If you like Hindi melodrama set in a gorgeous Himalayan town and love good melodious music, you will not be disappointed.
... View MoreThis the first review i am writing on IMDB. Maybe i should have taken the initiate and written bout a movie i really really loved (or really really hated) to make it memorable. But anyway, i felt like writing and so i am, who cares bout any sense of direction or purpose.Watch the movie and you'll think Chopra-gi felt much the same. There is the yellow dupata waving in the wind that was a nice formula that worked well elsewhere. There is Johnny Lever (whose 'acting talent' seems constrained to one specific line of attack) thrown in for good measure. Don't people in India ever get tired of this crap. I have to admit the songs are good, atleast i remember them being good in 1998, but like 99% others it is forgotten 3 years later. Nothing unusually clever about the film, though i strongly doubt u would be readin this review here if u were out looking for a clever hindi film.Watch it if all u want are a few songs, nice locales and ofcourse beautiful Neha and chota Dharmendra 'pasgaya pyaar mein' moods.Take care and i really think more people should write reviews you know. It is always nice to know why someone hates the movie i love and so on. Ofcourse you didn't need me to say any of this rite!! :)
