(CONTAINS SPOILERS! PLEASE BE WARNED!)I thought I should not watch this having read critical reviews that rated this movie a -1. But, I wanted to see firsthand just what is so unwatchable in this. EVERYTHING! Right from the beginning to the end, the movie proceeds at a snail's pace, pausing at times to show the Corbett National Park scenery as if it's a National Geographic or Discovery feature. After all, this is what can be expected from Karan Johar. Mindlessness! Now, we know Karan Johar is one lick-lolly in terms of his brain maturity. For instance, certain scenes, like Vishal Malhotra slipping off the jeep stuck on a bridge, to fall in the river and die, look copied from a Hollywood sfx. There's no convincing here. Too, in a scene when the trekkers are resting around a campfire and then fall asleep in tents (or perhaps, inside a guest house?), the camera pans sometime around the scene in partial infrared and the next thing we see is something or someone dragging the poor driver. Just what went on here is totally perplexing and the director gives no clues either. All the 'ghost' point-of-view have been shot badly. Instead of colored infrared with distortion effect, the director should have opted for some aged film b&W noise effect. Or, it could have been monochrome infrared. the ghost point-of-view shots are so distorted that one wonders if it suffers from eye-lens degradation!Almost in all the related scenes, Vivek Oberoi shouts, screams, thunders and overacts his way to make his point, disappointing his fans. Esha Deol can't act. Or, she has made it a point to act the same in all her movies. Lara Dutta is terrified but convincing. So is Kushal Punjabi, to an extent. Vishal Malhotra is a confused character, unnecessary here. Parmeet Sethi looks believable as forest officer. Although some have rated Ajay Devgn's character as bad, after watching this movie quite a few times, especially his role, I could say his essaying 'Kaali' is as powerful as his persona. The one scene worth watching is when three tigers corner the trekkers in their jeep. That one is superbly shot. It's the only time Ajay Devgn makes his entry in his trademark style. So similar across his roles, yet so different in appeal! But all in all, for those who have not watched this movie yet, I'd say DON'T WATCH IT! There are better horror flicks out there to give your valuable time to.

This movie was absolutely awful, well first when I watched it 45 min of it, it grabbed my attention, as the movie went on it started building upto rubbish, and it became obvious. (I wont tell you) I will tell you guys please do not go and rent this film, or buy it, or order it. the reason is that once you've watched it, you guys will say "I've just wasted my money on something crap" this movie isn't what the audience had expected, there is one question I 'd like to ask . why did this movie get 1 nomination, it was crap, this meant to be the biggest ever flop in 2005, I would say might as well watch Mrityudaata, even though I don't understand why this film was the biggest flop for 1997, I've watched it and its good, Caution: Do not buy this film, nor rent it, nor order it, nor borrow it. if you do you guys ill definitely without doubt regret it. I will repeat this movie isn't what we as an audience expected.

I watched the 1st hour and just couldn't take anymore of this torture.Everything abt this movie stinks - Direction, Special Effects, Background score, Cinematography and especially THE ACTING!! Vivek's 'tough guy' act had me cracking up the entire time. "Cut the crap". Who in their right minds would think such a lame line could make anyone look cool or tough? Vivek's delivery only makes it worse. This Srk-wannabe needs to take a lengthy break. All of his performances post-Saathiya have stunk. Who decided to make him the guy with the 'attitude'? He's abt as intimidating as an ant in the 1st half. Can't believe how quickly his career has sunk after such a promising start. Moving on, John Abraham is probably the most expression-less actor I've seen in Bollywood. Should've stuck to modeling. The awkward looking guy who played 'Sajid' was even worse then those two....he talks like a girl. The Mickey Mouse dude('Mambo' from Ishq Vishq) seemed like the only one who could actually act. This sleeping pill deserves a 2/10. .5 each for the three sl*ts(Malaika, Esha & Lara) who did a decent job in the 2 songs. Esha and Lara also weren't too bad for a little comedy(albeit, unintentional comedy). So .5 for those two.

Well! This is not your usual IMDb comment on this master-piece(of sh!t). This comment is here strictly for philanthropic purposes. You should read this comment AFTER you have seen Kaal.OKay. You must be thinking that you have seen the worst movie since the big bang ( or the ice-age, if , by nature, you are kind and forgiving ). Well.. I am here to give you a new interpretation to the movie and make you feel a li'l less cheated. Firstly, don't think that this movie belongs to the horror genre. Secondly you should not think that that Kaali was a killer was meant to be a surprise. Thirdly and most importantly, you should not even think that he is a bhoot. Kaali is not a bhoot. He is just a madman who talks about himself in the third person. And he thinks he died. When Villagers beat him black and blue, they did not kill him. He survived. But he lost his senses and started believing that he died. And all the deaths we see in the movie are those that are accidents or murders. The surviving characters think of him as a bhoot. They do that based on some silly evidence. They cant find his image - either in the well or in the video camera. Well, vivek oberai could not see the image in the well because the angle was not correct. And of course Kaali could not be seen in the camera - That was expected. After all, the conditions under which the camera was used were not exactly conducive for perfect composition of film. Thus, You should look at Kaali as a madman who is mistaken to be bhoot by the rest of the characters. If you have seen Citizen Kane, you would see some parallels here with the "rosebud". If you can see this way, you will understand that Kaal is not the poor man's "Urban Legend" as it is made out to be, but it is an amateur director's attempt at Citizen Kane. Now some advice: Next time you think of going to a movie in which a male actor is doing an 'item number', think again. May be it'd be more enjoyable to get struck in a traffic jam on a hot summer afternoon in an Indian City.
