This reimagining of the Justice League sees the eponymous superheroes inserted into a cold-war ready 1950s America and puts much more emphasis on its lesser known members, to the point that the 'big three' are actually pretty sidelined. 'Justice League: The New Frontier (2008)' spends a lot of time setting up its characters to make them feel believable in its world, with some given lengthy origin stories and others shown as being well established already. The issue is that this set-up both runs too long, eating too much run-time without being focused enough to feel properly 'worth it', and essentially leads straight into a disappointing finale - all but missing out the second act. This final movement sees an ominously foreshadowed but ultimately bizarre and unthreatening 'villain' face our protagonists in a battle that should be much more entertaining, and less silly, than it is. 6/10
... View MoreWhen I saw the cast list for The New Frontier I was really quite blown away. From David Boreanaz to the late great Miguel Ferrer to Neil Patrick Harris, Lucy Lawless, Kyle MacLachlan, John Heard & Jeremy Sisto.Sadly that's where the quality ends. It's animated and scored fine, but it's story is overly convoluted and an utter mess.Set in the 1950's and including all your Justice League favorites the timeline makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and really put me off.Certain characters like Batman have barely any presence in the film at all and may as well not even be in it.I know I'm a harsh critic but this is a contender for the worst DC animation I've seen. The Good: Excellent openingGreat castThe Bad:Timeline is bizzareWhy do all the characters look the same?Things I Learnt From This Movie:Seeing Miguel Ferrer and John Heard in the same thing makes me a sad panda. RIP
... View MoreJustice League: The New Frontier (2008) is animated DC film that I have really enjoy it and I think it is a bit underrated! I watched 4 Justice League animated films, three are awesome and one sucked! But The New Frontier is one of the DC animated super hero films that I really enjoy and it is my second favorite animated film in the Justice League. I hate Zack Snyder's Man of Steel and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice so I decide to watch some of the DC animated movies including Justice League and The New Frontier was the first animated film of the Justice League I saw and I like it a lot. This is the film that I think is pretty good, but a bit underrated. There s a problem with the film but it doesn't bother me but the problem is a lot of super heroes have less screen time in here, Mr. Shazam is not in here at all, there is no Supergirl in here, Robin is about 20 seconds in here, Green Arrow is in the film in the blink of the eye and a lot of this super heroes are not in that much. We do have a little bit of Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Superman, Wonder Woman. I have enjoy the film. The film takes in the 50's, pretty much after Korean war, out of the world exist this been called The Centre which is voiced by Keith David, that is going to destroy all human life on earth and super heroes have to join forces together while the government is hunting them, so now all have to join the forces together to stop the deadly menace in planet Earth. This is in the mist of communism, McCarthyism and you have tension of or you a commie or are you American, so forth, but we all have to get together, who cares about the uniforms that kind of type of the film. What really helps this film is a voice cast, this voice cast is excellent! You have the origin story of Hal Jordan who is the cast form David Boreanaz the guy from TV shows Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Valentine horror film and Bones TV Show who is a pilot in here, he really does a good job as Hal Jordan! This film is definitely a PG-13 you definitely can tell, after the Korean War, he is with his buddy pilot, his buddy is voiced by John Heard from Home Alone it is his buddy. Hal Jordan is a guy who doesn't want to kill anyone, he doesn't shoot, he maneuvers the airplane down, knocks a an Korean Soldier down and this guy try's to kill him with a knife and Hal Jordan has to put the gun in front the guy's head and shoot's the guy in the head, you see blood and the blood falls on his face, the next time you see him you get the idea because of an incident he was in the hospital, now he is back home with his friend, voiced by John Heard. The film is too short but they put a lot of stuff in it, they have the origin of the Green Lantern, how Hal Jordan becomes Green lantern, they have the origin of Martian Manhunter, you got a little origin from this guy who was just looking for a signal from Mars, now he is this Martian who stranded on our planet, and for awhile he doesn't look like Martian Manhunter, you see bits of him, he is in the apartment watching TV and he morphs in to Groucho Marx, than he actually morphs in to Bugs Bunny and drinking a bottle as watching TV and than he sees this TV show on and he morphs in to a character who calls him self Jones. Martian Manhunter is voiced by Miguel Ferrer I absolutely love the actor he was in RoboCop (1987), DeepStar Six and Crossing Jordan he actually played in a lot of movies.I think the voice cast was excellent choice and the film it has a lot of action, seen this the first time I really had fun with the flick and I like it. The only problem with the flick I do have is Superman's costume that looks a little weird, but the story is set in the 50's so it is great. The New Frontier get's 9 out of 10 rating.Justice League: The New Frontier is a 2008, direct-to-video, animated, superhero film adapted from the DC Comics limited series DC: The New Frontier. ... View MoreWith all the dark versions of the JL in other cartoons, this story is refreshingly light and optimistic. Set in the late 1950s/early 1960s, it retells the origin of the JL, or rather creates a new origin with a villain called the centre. This film includes most of the characters that existed for DC at the time, including Adam Strange, the challengers of the unknown and Blackhawk. Some viewers, not familiar with DC's history might find these characters confusing and distracting. It must be said that The Centre, when it appears, is a major disappointment. After so long a build-up, I was expecting more than a flying island, that seems to be a nod towards Krakoa, the sentient island who brought the new X-men together. There are certain longueurs in TNF, particularly around Hal Jordan being made Green Lantern, something which outstays its welcome for me although GL has always been a favourite character of mine. But this film has a charm and enthusiasm which is unusual among modern day superhero works.
