I have never rated a film, nor posted an opinion on line about a film but having just watched this poor film I felt a duty to join IMDb and post a rating so as to warn others who may be considering making the same mistake as me. I gave this filth a 1 star as thats the lowest rating the ratings tool would allow me, but believe me this is not even a one star film, its awful terrible acting, terrible plot, the whole thing was absolutely ridiculous and I feel cheated. Anyone who had anything to do with this garbage must feel truly ashamed of themselves. I am a lover of great film, but if the truth be told I can watch any old rubbish and normally get in to it on some level but not with this absolute turkey, it was horrendous. I cannot fathom how anyone in there right mind could have allowed this film to be made let alone released, what a rip off, we have been cheated people. I now have a headache and the most annoying thing is I sat through this until the end despite deciding one minute into the film that this is the most amateur, pathetic effort of an attempt at a gangster movie I have ever seen. You cant even call this a movie, this film should be renamed'"Gone in 60 seconds"because thats precisely how long I should have left it in the DVD player before tossing this rubbish out of the window.Be warned do not watch this movie.!!

Vinnie Jones is now officially my favorite Brit film star. He totally rocks this film.I have some cousins in Ireland and they told me to check this out. It was the 3rd film I watched the other night and definitely my favorite. You'd never see a movie like this made in Hollywood, which is really f**ked. The story is tight -- about Irish revolutionaries in South London who are trapped in a house with a Jamaican drug lord, his posse and his woman. Eriq LaSalle is great as the drug lord -- and Samantha Mumba is totally hot.I could have used a few more explosions, but I also liked the fact that the explosions came out of the acting, and not just special effects.I guess the best thing I can say about this film is that I'm looking forward to watching it again.

It was great to see a movie that finally did not go with the same old tired themes. It was good to see Eriq out of Er scrubs and not promoting Soul Glo! Seriously though, this movie is one of the few from the past few years which had me wanting to tell friends about it.I really loved the mixing of plot and thought the characters, who clearly have all had a very different mix of backgrounds (Roger Daultry and Lennox Lewis??!!) did a good job meshing. In general, the movie flowed well with good suspense and a solid script. One not to be missed.

I saw JOHNNY WAS last week at the American Black Film Festival in Miami (what a blast!). This movie is HARD. The Jamaican gangsters (Eriq LaSalle of E.R. fame--or "So-Glo" if you love it and know it) in Brixton don't play by the same rules as the IRA guys (Vinnie Jones (XMEN 3), Patrick Bergin, Roger Daltrey--YES, from the WHO!). Especially when one of the IRA guys tries to steal the gangster's girl (Samantha Mumba (TIME MACHINE)).Basically, this is a typical British gangster movie with better than average action and cast. It's slightly less stylized than the Guy Ritchie films in this space, which is nice--the main slant JOHNNY WAS has is that it's really got an amazing soundtrack, thanks to boxer-cum-REALLYGOOD!-actor Lennox Lewis, who plays a Rastafarian DJ complete with a giant spliff. The movie builds from a simple turf war to something larger than life, when moral questions of right and wrong (particularly the IRA's history vis-a-vis modern day hoodlums--who's "better"?) SPOILER: who's morally "right"? the answer: probably no one in this film is good or right since by the end it's a GIANT bloodbath. the action scenes are particularly a$$-kicking, the IRA bombings go on-and-on.If you like reggae, if you like gangster films, this is another good one. Probably the best movie i've seen out of Ireland, but then I didn't really like the review in IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER too much... do you blame me?
