Jews and Money: Investigation of a Myth Trailers

Filmmaker Lewis Cohen intelligently explores the origins and evolution of the myth of the wealthy Jew. In 2006, Ilan Halimi, a French Jewish salesman is lured to the outskirts of Paris where he is kidnapped and later murdered by criminal gang who had demanded a half-million euro ransom on the assumption that 'all Jews are rich'. Jews & Money is a probe into the myth about Jews, and where and when it took root. Why is the Jew so often cast as the banker or trader, pawnbroker or movie mogul? Of all the medieval moneylenders, why is only Shylock remembered? How did the Rothschilds become the symbols of international capitalism? And why does a simple cell phone salesman get pegged as rich, and die for it?

n the official first showing of the film Jews & Money, director Lewish Cohen asked to forgive for the few blemished seen on the film, it was a rough cut but it was premiered at the 2013 Atlanta Jewish Film Festival. This movie revolves around the capture and kidnapping of IIan Halimi and was held for ransom for $500,000. This 23 year old salesman was targeted because he was Jewish and his captives wanted to make a quick buck. This story delves into the deeper causes for this stereotype that "jews have money". It follows the origins of this stereotype from the medieval ages when the state worked with Jews to collect money for the government. The movie is touching and moving as it humanizes this stereotype of Jews. It exposes the outrages this case brought in Paris and how this hate crime points to modern anti-Semitism. Riveting and emotionally charged Jews & Money will make you think about unfounded hate today's world.
