Well, well, well. Very clever. take one unpopular kid with weirdo mates, a bucketful of dreams and a love interest, and you come out with what should have been a very good film. It wasn't the worse film i've ever seen. I enjoyed it in parts. But it's like if you've ever been promised a really brilliant night out by your partner and he then takes you for a drink in your local, a Chinese take away and then, just to add insult to injury, asks you to pay half. Girls, you know what i mean. The point is i was so incredibly disappointed with this movie. It should have been great, something along the lines of nightmare before Christmas or even the corpse bride. It just wasn't. Watch it and decide for yourself. It wasn't the worse. It was just disappointing.

When I first heard about a CGI movie being made called "Igor", I was pretty excited--it sounded pretty cool and the publicity photos looked interesting. Yet, despite this, I never got around to seeing this in the theater. Now that I just saw it on Showtime, I am thrilled that I never got around to spending my hard-earned cash on this very limp film. The film starts well enough--you learn that 'Igors' are a group of assistants who get educated on how to be the perfect assistants for mad scientists. They are to blindly obey, have no creative thoughts of their own and have no real purpose other than to serve. Oddly, however, the Igor of the film's title is different. He wants to become a mad scientist himself and secretly has been experimenting--creating a dumb talking brain in a jar as well as an indestructible rabbit who is suicidal. Now, his ultimate creation, a giant female monster is about to be unleashed--all it needs is for Igor to push the switch and send a bazillion volts into her to bring her to life. But, sadly, she turns out to be very nice--and who would give this the award for the upcoming mad scientist science fair?! And, on top of that, a truly evil mad scientist is bent on stealing this invention for himself. The film is a very unusual CGI movie artistically. The CG is unusual but also not particularly pretty--looking a generation behind some of the other CGI movies that debuted in 2008. It's a style that you'll either love or hate--and I hated it. However, the CG was the least of the film's problems. The story simply is bad. As a children's movie, it's really unacceptable for younger audiences as it's pretty violent--with some nasty deaths and language issues. As a film for adults, the story seems pretty dumb. Case in point--the entire end of the film--which an incomprehensible mess involving the nice monster becoming mean and destroying everything while dressed like Annie and singing "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow"!! So would I recommend this film? No. But I guess for ages 10-12 it's not too bad--anyone younger shouldn't see it and anyone older would be shocked by the incomprehensible lameness.

Igor only wants to invent and be renowned as a great evil scientist. But what he doesn't know is that he is part of greater system that has set his plans in motion. What makes this film great is that it makes you think. Many -isms play a key role in the story such as naturalism: Does the hump on Igor's back keep him from reaching the goal that others try to prevent or is it the hump that makes his goals possible? Or maybe Existentialism: How does Igor's free will make him into a hero or is it just naturalism and the odds were not stacked high enough? However these -isms undermine the story because although the viewer knows this movie is about Igor's dreams and what he will do to make realized, what they don't know is that these dreams were created by a puppet master. The question now is, "how does Igor play a role in this?" This high level thinking keeps IGOR from being a simple plot driven movie because there are actually many plots. I didn't give this a 10 because I think happy endings are cliché.

I really loved this movie. The music, which happened to be one of my favorite types of music, was cheerful, compared to what I expected to hear in the movie. Igor looks as cute and adorable as a puppy with those big eyed. Brain and Scamper remind me of Billy and Mandy from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, with Brain being dumb and cheerful like Billy and Scamper being smarter and grumpy like Mandy. As for Eva, I think she is very pretty for someone who looks like a giant rag doll. I love how Igor changed from wanting to be an evil scientist to a nice person. Also, this movie reminded me of Wall-E. Both Wall-E and Eva had feelings for someone (Eve and Igor), who didn't seem to have those same feelings. At some point, both Wall-E and Eva have been changed so that they don't love, and both Eve and Igor showed how they really feel. And of course, I have noticed that the couples from both movies (Wall-E/Eve, Igor/Eva) have the girl being taller than the guy, which is something I rarely see.
