An excellent, if flawed directorial debut. Takes from Scorcese, Paul Thomas Anderson and Tarantino to name but three. But it also brings a freshness that I have not seen in a good few years. Well worth a look 7.5 out of 10
... View MoreI planned on putting this flick on in the background, but was pleasantly surprised when it started.Elijah Bynum, did a fantastic job with this film, I am eager to follow him in the future. Per usual, Timothy Chalamet delivered a great performance and Alex Roe did a great job playing the ultra S E X Y bad boy. I enjoyed the narration on the film, it reminded me of the Sandlot in the way the story progressed along with the narrations. The soundtrack was fantastic, and as an avid Goodfellas fan, I saw many appropriate and exciting parallels with this film. All in all, it's a great watch and one of those movies you feel accomplished after watching. It was absolutely not a waste of time.
... View MoreI just saw my dream summer... I wanted to see romantic view of summer for long, and not the one we get from the books and have to imagine by ourselves. As far as this guy, Daniel, I wish to spend summer like this with gorgeous girl. Of course, without drugs. "Hot Summer Nights" is beautiful movie for soul, not just in romantic way but in many ways. I am also guy, and after this film I wanted to cry. This movie is also strange. It is like a dream come true because Daniel didn't need to work hard or study after graduatin school, he just have been selling drugs. Not a secret that girls at some point want money from guys and this is a strange part of relationship. For Daniel, he succeed everything this summer perfectly. I am feeling envy for him. I had exams and have been trying to move to college for nearly two months of summer 2018. And only now, august I am feeling some relax but it's still reserved, at home somehow having nowhere to go. And Daniel just spends all summer so nicely with girl in such a beautiful small town, traveling even during nights. Well I am glad that at least I saw how wonderful summer would look like
... View MoreJust very poorly directed and edited. You can see what it was trying to be, but it just can't get there. It needs better character/story development. The story moves too fast and it just doesn't seem authentic. I also think the kid who plays the main character, Daniel, needs to not mumble through his lines so you can understand what he's saying! I also really didn't like the random little kid narrating throughout the movie. It seemed to make me feel even more detached from the characters. It's all so utterly predictable, unoriginal and uninspiring.
