I like horror anthology movies and over the years we've seen some fantastic ones from Creepshow (1982) to Trick R Treat (2007) but the main struggle they have is they can only be as good as their weakest tale.Horror House has a wrap around (Like they usually do) sadly it features Lloyd Kaufman and I still to this day consider the man a festering boil on the rear end of the industry. The stories are hit and miss but sadly more the latter, I'd summarize but even the good ones wouldn't translate very well. They range from good all the way down to terrible and for that reason this certainly isn't one I'd recommend to anyone. Not scary, not original and certainly don't expect even the slightest degree of humour. From the cover art you can immediatly tell that this was never going to be anything special and in thinking that you'd be right. A knife, some blood and a pair of boobs does not equate to a good advertisement for a movie. Not the worst, but it isn't worth wading through the garbage for the moments of passable entertainment. The Good:Couple of the stories are passableThe Bad:Lloyd KaufmanLame cover artMost of the stories are really quite direThings I Learnt From This Movie:Don't have kidsDon't have dollsDon't watch anything featuring Lloyd Kaufman!
... View MoreThis fair, above average anthology plays host to a house party of mediocre stories, tied together by a slightly unique commonality: the house itself. A few creepy tales ("Truelife", the Yearling") are right at home here. There are however a few cheap and disappointing visuals that could use a remodeling like the end scene of "Hot Stuff" not to mention the 'Detective' in "Be Careful What you Wish For". (Speaking of - The Detective's true identity though not clear - is the most interesting piece of the movie). The use of some stereotypes like the gypsy fortune teller (complete with overused and exaggerated accent) in the aforementioned segment is just silly and ridiculous - and may have been specifically used to keep in a B-movie category. Overall though, it was a fun watch though this is NOT a mansion of quality like Trick or Treat or Holidays but a quaint but satisfying 'rancher' that could still use some upkeep. It felt like a TV show unlike "Tales from the Darkside", with its less-than-perfect cinematic quality. Each segment could have easily been sliced into their own episode. But as a whole, I could have seen this as "Tales from the Darksite The Movie II". Lloyd Kaufman is either the best or worst host based on how believable you are willing to take his camp and comedic blathering. But somehow, in his hackneyed and clichéd banter, it works.
... View MoreThe unfair 1 star review almost made me skip this movie, but I'm glad I didn't listen. I figured it had to be better than that with a 4.9 rating. There is nothing wrong with the acting. I've seen much worse! It's a bit of a comical/horror mix, well worth the time watching. I probably over rated it by giving it a 10, but with bozo's under rating it with a 1, it needed the offset. Honestly, with today's movies, it is probably actually a 6 or 7. It's not Lord of the Rings, but it definitely is leaps and bounds better than a lot of the junk out there. Give this movie a shot! It kind of reminds me of "Tales from the Darkside." If you liked that movie, odds are you will enjoy this one.
