As Trevor drifts through Texas on collision course with a nightmare he is still haunted by the evils of the war he recently returned from and a promise he failed to keep. When a stranger offers a ride, Trevor finds himself battling the brutal homegrown evil of the Broderick family at Hoboken Hollow,a remote West Texas ranch that many visit but few ever leave.

So this Texas Slave Ranch thing all took place like 30 miles from where I live. The actual story ended with one guy doing 3 years of a 15 year sentence, another guy getting probation (for multiple counts of abducting, enslaving, torturing and possibly killing people,) and the mother went free (she's currently one of the town's homeless. Poetic justice, I guess.) I haven't seen the movie yet, I was just investigating the story. But these crazy, inbred pieces of filth made tapes of the torture sessions. Probably the only good thing to come out of the whole fiasco was the family having to put the ranch up as collateral to pay their big-shot high-profile lawyer. They were what's known as land-rich, cash-poor. The scuttlebutt is that this ranch was legendarily well-kept. Which should have raised some eyebrows. I mean, 4 people doing all of the work on a 3,500 acre ranch?

Although not the worst movie I have seen,it seems a lot of people didn't like this movie.I did like the one comment and their summary was "what is it with Texas".It is such a typical place where you'd expect something like this to happen. I don't believe this movie was real and at the end of the credits it is sort of confirmed when it says all characters and events are fictitious. I believe something happened, and believe it could happen.I love horror movies although the really gory ones are my least favorite.I am always interested in viewing a new one and I liked that C. Thomas Howell was in it because I like his acting.I watched the unrated version of the DVD.I found the movie disturbing and extremely disgusting but I got into it.There was 1 scene where I literally nearly threw up when Trevor was hiding right deep inside a toilet of an outhouse full of sh*t and...,well you can imagine the rest.I thought the effects in this film were quite good for a low budget movie.A few people commented how disturbed they were by the rape of Teri.Yes it was disturbing, but the men that were being tortured was also disturbing and a lot of them were killed and eaten. I was angry that this hideous family got away with all that they did and that there was no justice.I wanted to see that ugly bitch Lois and her demented husband Junior pay for what they did.I don't understand why the Trevor character or even a few others didn't try to organize an attack on their captors, especially since they had access to weapons including a chainsaw.I was hoping Andrew Gates really would have used the chainsaw on that freak Lois like he wanted.I liked Randy Spelling as Parker and almost thought he would turn on the Broderics and help free the others. Yes the movie did stir up some rage because it was well acted and I can't imagine some innocent person having to go through something like this. And it's tragic that none of the victims were missed and nobody cared!I hope that this part isn't true of the real events that occurred.

I don't want to say too much about this film so I don't ruin it for others but it is unlike most other horror films in the fact that it has an in-depth story line and it is shot as a sort of docu-drama. What I have noticed about many comments on many sites is that a lot of people are not following the story well. I think this is because most people go to see a horror film and do not expect it to make much sense so they do not pay attention to the details. If you miss some of the story line in this one it can really affect the outcome for you. It is not your typical no brainer, but there are some goods scenes that will make you jump or just plain disturb you. Also has a couple of good twists, I recommend this movie to anyone who likes to think or loves a little bit of gore. Also this movie is "based" on actual events, which makes it that much more unnerving.

As a European who has now seen umpteen horror movies set in Texas I have to ask: what is it about Texas? There are always people going along the road, a clear blue cloudless sky (clear blue is the new thunder, and lightning, and sunlight is the new Gothic)and they always meet and very foolishly take the mickey out of people with squints, slow gaits and terrible teeth, who are all in cahoots with each other: the lady in the shop is in on it. The sheriff is in on it. The cleaner is in on it. So are the cats, dogs, pigs, goats, octogenarians and five-year-olds. All evil killers. There can't be a single honest homestead in the whole of Texas, or at least homes where the inhabitants are not cannibalistic are in the minority. This film was a disappointment, being identical, in almost every way, to other films about homicidal Texan families that I have seen, but featuring poorer acting and less atmosphere.
