This movie succeeds on a basic level -- it's entertaining. Sure the story is loose and religious and the film's surprises are somewhat stale, but it's all in good fun. There's just enough suspense to sustain interest and the minor twists of the story keep things at a good pace. Meanwhile the rounded supporting cast from of all TV shows, 'Survivor' keeps things lively and keeps the viewer going, "Where have I seen him before?" or "Hey that's such and such". Good casting call.I've read on here how people think this is stupid, dumb and lacks any suspense or thrills. Like any of the faith-based movies had exceptionally smart stories, you didn't know what was gonna happen next or how it would all end. Of course not. For a entry level religious flick, this one satisfies. Now if only I could get the last song out of my mind...!
... View MoreI saw this movie as a teenager when it was first released in 2003. The promotional hype for the film ensured you did not have a clue what it was about and people who had seen the movie were asked not to reveal the ending. You went to see it anticipating something scary and thats what you got. Even 10 years later I still remember sitting in a dark theatre with my heart pumping and everyone, and I mean everyone, screaming their lungs out. Especially when everyone get suddenly RAPTURED!!!The movie set a new and very high standard in horror movies which I don't believe has ever been equaled. The characters were great, the direction perfect and the music, which I thought was absolutely fantastic, made this a classic.I still get scared when I see it on DVD.
... View More...not to waste your time watching this vanity project. I've had my comment deleted twice now, for reasons that I have yet to understand, other than the suspicion that someone involved with "Gone" isn't happy with what I had to say. So, I've pared things down to the nitty-gritty this time with an excerpt of my original comments that can in no way be taken as a personal attack on anyone, nor unfair commentary: ""Gone" is the sort of train wreck that gives new meaning to the words. Horrible, stilted dialogue, a script that just plain flails about like a fish out of water, acting that would embarrass the most self-centered of community theater divas, cinematography inspired by the "Survivor" school of swooping crane shots followed by static, nostril-exploring close-ups, terrible ADR work, special visual effects that aren't, pedestrian music that totally fails to sustain any mood or emotion, terrible editing with utterly pointless freezes and fades, no art direction to speak of---the litany of badness just goes on and on...I felt genuinely cheated out of the time it took me to fast forward through most of it...time that could have been better spent staring at a wall...Under no circumstances should anyone unfortunate enough to be reading this subject themselves to this "movie," because long before it's over, they will be wishing they had been "raptured" before they made that mistake." Case closed. Amen.
... View MoreReading some of the other reviews makes me wonder about our culture. There's hardly ANY films that acknowledge God these days and when one does, it gets flamed. Why? To make a film that alludes to Jesus Christ these days takes courage. Lots of courage. We commend all the filmmakers and producers behind "GONE" and hope that they don't get discouraged by the wolfs in sheep's clothing.Rent 'GONE' for yourself at Blockbuster and judge for yourself. It's a truly amazing film that will make you think long after the film is over.Interestingly, if you look at the reviews for the other Christian films, it appears those films get blasted with the same negative, vicious reviews.
