I picked this up on DVD without ever even hearing of it, so wasn't sure what to expect. At first I thought, "this is going to be disappointing" but as the film went on I started really enjoying it. I thought they dropped the 'f bomb' a little too much, but I think that's just a case of writers trying to be 'cool' or something. All in all it was what you would expect - a romantic comedy. There's some really really good laugh out loud lines and scenes, especially with the guys. I though Drew Barrymore was exceptional. No real acting seen here. More of a very real natural performance I thought. Very natural. I thought she came off very good. Same with Christina Applegate. Thought she did a great job. So did the rest of the cast.

Damn this movie made me laugh. I'm not generally one for the romantic comedies but this was very good. Original story, a whose-who list of fantastic secondary characters and genuine chemistry from two very likable leads in Drew Barrymore and Justin Long. I loved the sarcasm between them in their dialogue. The story here is about a guy and a girl who try to keep their love alive as they shuttle back and forth between New York and San Francisco to see one another. They know the odds aren't in their favour but they're going to try and make this work. There are many laugh-out-loud moments here but that sex scene on the dining room table with the husband right there, sitting in the dark, eating a sandwich and then the sister (Christina Applegate) later cleaning and tossing food that falls on the table just killed me. I will watch this one again one day 03.13

If you don't like RomCom, don't bother with this. But if you do, and you don't mind swearing, then you'll find this one worthy. It was better than I thought, given that I had never heard of it before seeing in on the W channel. To compare, it's on par with "Friends with Benefits" and "Music and Lyrics", and better than "Fever Pitch". Drew scrapes by as an acceptable age intern, but considering she side-tracked her college years chasing boys, it's not too far-fetched. The couple have a believable "meet cute" and then face the dilemma of what to do when they're apart and don't want to be. When it becomes tedious, there is comic relief in Garret's zany buddies and Erin's over-protective, neurotic sister (ya gotta love Christina Applegate in this role). My biggest problem with this film was watching it on W - commercials ran every 9 minutes, which was too disruptive. Conservative RomCom fans might find it too crass at times, but in this day and age, its flavour of humour is what has become acceptable. If you can role with it, this film is a fun surprise in this genre. RomCom fans - enjoy!

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!! I have to say it came as a bit of a surprise, I wasn't expecting much after seeing the trailer as they tend to put the best bits in the trailers. But I was wonderfully surprised about how funny and warming this film was!! The cast of Justin Long and Drew Barrymore works really well together and Justin's friends in the film (played by Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day) are hilarious! If you have seen the trailer and aren't sure whether to bother seeing it or not, I say give it a chance because you'll be surprised at how well this movie works. The rating of 6.3 out of 10 is not justified, you need to see it before making any judgements. Definitely worth a watch!!
