This movie was trash. It can be summed up by the one conversation where one of the friends admits to sucking his own d*ck. That is the beginning of the downhill rubbish included in this movie that's supposedly romantic. Two people meet (over an old style video game in a shop) and that is meant to be the basis for a great romance? People swearing constantly and talking about dry hump8ing? Rubbish movie deserves a negative rating rather than a 1.

Erin (Drew Barrymore) is finishing her internship in New York and returning home to San Francisco. Garrett (Justin Long) gets dumped by his girlfriend. They start up a fling but end up trying to keep the long distant relationship alive. There is some foul mouth rude sarcastic fun to be had here. When you get Charlie Day, you can't expect anything less. At least, I hope we don't get anything less.We catch Justin Long and Drew Barrymore while they're still a couple. Their breakup probably didn't help this movie any. They have good chemistry together. However it doesn't work on the phone. It breaks up the flow of the rom-com. I know it's the gimmick that drives the movie. It's just not a very cinematic gimmick.

If you don't like RomCom, don't bother with this. But if you do, and you don't mind swearing, then you'll find this one worthy. It was better than I thought, given that I had never heard of it before seeing in on the W channel. To compare, it's on par with "Friends with Benefits" and "Music and Lyrics", and better than "Fever Pitch". Drew scrapes by as an acceptable age intern, but considering she side-tracked her college years chasing boys, it's not too far-fetched. The couple have a believable "meet cute" and then face the dilemma of what to do when they're apart and don't want to be. When it becomes tedious, there is comic relief in Garret's zany buddies and Erin's over-protective, neurotic sister (ya gotta love Christina Applegate in this role). My biggest problem with this film was watching it on W - commercials ran every 9 minutes, which was too disruptive. Conservative RomCom fans might find it too crass at times, but in this day and age, its flavour of humour is what has become acceptable. If you can role with it, this film is a fun surprise in this genre. RomCom fans - enjoy!

My wife and I watched this on a lazy afternoon, simply hoping for a harmless rom-com. Sadly the film left me deeply depressed at the state of modern film making and after 10 minutes or so I was desperately wishing that we had people still making the sort of films Cary Grant used to be in. It's just my opinion but what was wrong with this film was the following, I like Drew Barrymore but she's getting too old for these roles, she looked like Justin Long's mum at times. Justin Long, see previous comment re Cary Grant, in comparison Justin has the charm and screen presence of a house brick. The script, I swear a lot and i'm not a prude but putting f*** in every sentence is not a substitute for wit or sharp dialogue. There was no chemistry between the leads, and the basic premise of the story, a romance hampered by them being on opposite sides of the USA just lead to them both looking selfish,or too stupid to discuss a compromise rather than sympathising with their plight. Also re the script the use of "crazy" friends is fine , as long as they again provide some wit or sharp dialogue rather than that talking over each other, and just adding some toilet based rubbish. In sports if people fail or foul they can be punished by suspensions,we should have the same system in films, its a pity that whoever wrote this can't be suspended for a year or get points on their "writing licence" so next time you know they are rated as a no star writing team..........i'm off to watch that Touch of Mink on DVD. Thanks for listening.
