Gardeners of Eden Trailers

Africa's elephants are hurtling towards extinction to fuel the worldwide ivory trade. While conservationists howl and corrupt governments fail to address the ongoing slaughter, one brave family has been working for decades to stem the tide, one elephant at a time. Gardeners of Eden is a gripping, first-person experience inside the operations of Kenya's David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. From the front lines of the crisis, we witness their heroic efforts to stop the poachers in the bush, rescue the orphans of slain elephants and raise them by hand, until one day, returning them to their home in the wild.

I was at the world premiere of this new documentary about the horrible Elephant/Ivory tragedy occurring in Africa (every day 15 elephants are mutilated and/or killed for their tusks, leaving elephant families devastated and many orphaned elephants are found annually). The audience at the Mill Valley Film Festival couldn't have been more enthusiastic during the talk after. One man in the audience offered a $10,000 matching funds donation to the David Sheldrick Elephant Trust, another (acclaimed apparently) director introduced himself and said in his experience, this was an outstanding film that should be seen on a wide audience... we all were moved in the sold-out audience (I started off my question with the recommendation to provide Kleenex at all future screenings of this powerful documentary.) I already signed the anti-ivory petition at www.iWorry.org HIGHLY recommended, my favorite of all 6 MVFF films I've seen so far this week and the most moving documentary I've seen in many years.
