I have just finished this film and I have specially made an account to warn people away from this dishevelled mess of a film. Frankly I am astonished by the many positive reviews this film has received. Horror is my favourite genre and normally I am more than willing to sit through a film even if it is not that great, but I have to say that this is without a doubt one of the worst horror films I have ever seen. The story line is dull and incredibly unoriginal, the characters are bland and completely devoid of personality. If I save just one person from watching this drivel I will be happy. Please, please do yourself a favour and save yourself the time and effort, watch something else.

As I like informing potential readers in most of my reviews - I'm no critic, nor even a cinema student. I am, however, a huge fan of the horror genre to the point of being a horror freak. As with any film that isn't the best of its kind, reviews for Fragile vary between positive and negative. This is a positive one!First of all, it was very nice seeing Calista Flockhart in a film, as Ally McBeal had been very popular when I was a teenager. Her acting was indeed professional and convincing. Altogether, this film presented some very fine acting in my opinion. When it comes to the Ghosts sub-genre, it's very hard to be original by now. Like many others, Fragile's story presented nothing new. Then again, a story, especially a ghost story, needn't be groundbreaking in order to be good. There were, however, things that in my opinion could have been done differently and better. For starters, I think spectators would have appreciated being given more details about the protagonist's past, maybe even seeing a connection between it and the film's events unfolded. While speaking of unfolding events - the final ones in the film (not surprising enough to qualify as twists) were a little anticlimactic. When watching such films, one always hopes (even expects) to be really surprised (and hopefully shocked) by the events and twists towards the end, and in this department Fragile sadly failed to deliver. Most importantly - the ghost itself could and should have been scarier. I might be biased, as when I think of scary ghosts I immediately think of The Grudge and The Ring. This ghost wasn't the "Asian" type, and objectively speaking was indeed rather spooky. However, in a film that's no more than average in its story, some features need to really shine. I found Fragile to be lacking in this regard. However, I must say that some of the scenes were really moving. The beautiful bond between Amy and Maggie was heartwarming, and added sort of a "bonus dimension" to the film that isn't always found in ghost stories. All in all, I enjoyed watching this film, and believe others would to. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good ghost story, but doesn't expect to be swept off their feet.

Jaume Balagueró's 'Frágiles' is very much your typical fright-fest suspense claustrophobic horror but that doesn't necessarily mean that its devoid of entertainment. First off, to give Balagueró credit as director and writer, the film grabs your attention from the very beginning and it stays focused on the main story without attempting to elaborate too much on side stories. Secondly, the atmosphere is very chilling and claustrophobic. The 'hospital' actually does look quite cold and creepy. It looks authentic. The slightly washed out color and light effects are very good. The visual effects are superb. The flip side is that 'Frágiles' is pretty formulaic. The characterization and dialogue follow the formula. There are plenty of plot holes too. The performances are adequate but many suffer due to sketchy writing. Calista Flockheart does a decent job. She is well supported by Gemma Jones. Elena Anaya and Richard Roxburgh haven't got much to do.To sum it up, 'Frágiles' could do for decent viewing. I'd further recommend to watch this on a large screen television with fine sound system in order to get drawn into the atmosphere.

Quality horror movies that don't rely on mountains of gore/blood or state of the art CGI effects are rare nowadays as a lot of the work is taken out of the director's hand.Director Jaume Balagueró does a terrific job here building the suspense. Calista Flockhart clearly chooses her roles very carefully and she was part of an excellent cast.I don't know if this was an actual old hospital or just a well created set but this definitely added to the whole effect, you could almost anticipate the creaking and crumbling that was going to happen. And people could relate to a lot of things here spiritually, the whole life death conundrum and everyone knows stories of misdoings in hospitals back in the day, the director skilfully conjures this all up together, the only slight disappointment is the dead nurse herself. While, i'm pleased fx here were at a minimum, she looked like she had been cobbled together by one of the children! That doesn't detract in anyway from an excellent modern suspense horror movie
