What to say about this Modern era masterpiece.... Everything in this movie was perfect casting, acting, locations, story, screenplay etc. The lead role (Min sik Choi) what an actor he is, you give him a role and he will do better from your best expectations.... And the Failan herself (Cecilia Cheung) this was my first experience with her and have to say she is quite a talented actress, look's like she was perfect for the Failan's role..... Now coming back to the movie, it is a very touchy film, a story of a pure & pleasant love in this unpleasant world, failan's love was pure through the end for his paper husband and on the other hand her husband Kangjae(Min sik Choi) also fall in love for her sweetness, kindness and purity..... As all other reviews said that you will cry while watching this drama, & have to admit that, all of them are right. It's quite a touchy movie and it'll break your heart into several pieces. Other things you will love about this movie is acting, direction, story and the farewell notes written by Failan to her husband, those notes was very very emotive.... One more thing i love about this film is that it doesn't look like fake, this whole incident could happen with anyone you, me, anyone. So a must watch movie for all.....
... View MoreI was never one who were into love stories until I saw this movie. The fact that they took a basic idea and decided to tell it from a perspective where the main characters DID NOT met each other totally sustained my interest throughout the movie and was wondering how would this movie play out at the end.The characters themselves drew me right into their world since their lifestyle was far less then typical then ordinary people. You really got to see the struggle they had to go through just to live day by day.Now granted there would have been a gap in age but what we had here were two people who are far different from each other as can be and the only thing that connected them really was the red scarf which was the most simplest but yet most powerful thing that sparked what true love could have been. The second half of the movie took a turn to even more sadness because of the letters that was being left behind for her supposedly husband. Choi Min-sik character totally touched me because it was obvious that he had never experienced that kind of honesty and sincerity before in his life which was full of pain, struggle and who is considered less then a decent human being. The climax was the most power moment due to his character dieing and the last thing he saw was her. All I could think of during that time was "only if they had met each other, there lives would have been different" knowing that I consider this to be the most powerful love story ever because of all the possibilities that would have happen if only if they just met once.

All too often, many of us wonder about a different path we could've taken or a choice made that was poor in hindsight. These situations comprise intimate relationships as well, where words said and actions not acted upon can have far reaching consequences. But, this is life; sometimes the most mundane decision will alter your existence, creating the potential for selfishness and kindness to go hand in hand with each other. Watch Failan and realize what I've said above is just to prepare you for a great film about what it means to be human.

View MoreWith gems such as My Sassy Girl, Friend, Guns & Talks, Il Mare, Joint Security Area, Oldboy, it is no surprise why Hollywood is camping to pounce on any remake scripts they could get their rich hands on.It only takes a petty sum of money (insignificant in Hollywood's eyes, considering how much they spent on special effects alone) to buy the remake rights for a Korean movie. How much do you think you have to fork out if you request to do a remake to Godfather or Matrix? The rich-poor gap is clearly shown in this situation. Hollywood will never allow anyone to remake Matrix unless it is a very handsome sum of money. If you enjoyed Failan, I highly recommend other Korean movies such as A Moment to Remember, Il Mare, Ditto and My Brother. They are more or less the same type of genre.Mao points: 8/10
