Fagbug Trailers

On the 11th Annual National Day of Silence, Erin Davies was victim to a hate crime in Albany, New York. Because of sporting a rainbow sticker on her VW Beetle, Erin's car was vandalized, left with the words "fag" and "u r gay" placed on the driver's side window and hood of her car. Despite initial shock and embarrassment, Erin decided to embrace what happened by leaving the graffiti on her car. She took her car, now known worldwide as the "fagbug," on a 58-day trip around the United States and Canada. Along the way, Erin discovered other, more serious hate crimes, had people attempt to remove the graffiti, and experimented with having a male drive her car. After driving the fagbug for one year, Erin decided to give her car a makeover.

I don't usually have a strong liking for documentaries, but I decided to give Fagbug a try one quiet weekend, and all I can say is...I was blown away by this amazing movie. It follows the story of a person who fell victim to a hate crime. Just because this person had a "rainbow" sticker on her little Volkswagon, some ignorant soul took it upon themselves to spray paint vulgar slander all over her vehicle, apparently under the suspicion that the driver was a man. It wasn't...the vehicle belonged to a woman, and a very nice woman at that, by the name of Erin Davies. Rather then spend a bunch of money to have the vehicle fixed up, Erin responded by taking the car out yonder, going on a cross country trip with Fagbug to bring awareness to not only the crime, but to the realization of being a person in America. This is all based on a true story, and for sensitive viewers, I can recommend you keep a box of Kleenex handy, there are some disturbing and deeply emotional ( more often, just uncomfortable feeling) as you share this journey with such a brave young girl! Erin is absolutely fearless, as she travels through bible belts, completely motivated to get her story known. It should only take about ten minutes into this film for Erin to win you over, she is so nice and sweet in nature. She lives in an apartment with her girlfriend, and she seems to be on a quest to start a fight against discrimination, at least, awareness to the problem. The movie does stop every once in awhile to bring you disturbing facts, which most of them are interesting, some are sad. ( I won't spoil some of the stories, but all I can say is they don't always end well.) If you're homophobic, maybe you won't be after you watch this, because one point cannot be denied by the end of watching this incredible treasure, and that's the fact that ignorance is truly bliss.
