The traditional animation attempting to mesh with the very bad CGI is simply terrible to watch. It honestly looks like 80s-90s direct to TV... AT BEST...
... View MoreI love the Dragonlance books, they are brilliantly written and exciting with strong characters and imagery. This movie doesn't deliver on any level, except for one. Kiefer Sutherland does an outstanding job with his voice work, other than that Dragonlance:Dragons of Autumn Twilight isn't worth it really. The animation is very outdated, the backgrounds and colours are very dull, the visual effects are too flashy and out-date the visual style more and all the characters look awkward especially in the facial expressions. The music is both generic and forgettable with no themes sticking out as such, the writing is cheesy and trite and the story is predictable, convoluted and very rushed through. None of the characters are believable or likable and look very uncomfortable especially in the unexciting action sequences, and the rest of the voice acting is bland. All in all, only worth seeing for Kiefer Sutherland, everything else stinks in my opinion. 2/10 Bethany Cox
... View MoreI'm neither a fan of Dragonlance nor do I know anything about the RPGs or novels which this movie is based on but it certainly tried to treat its source-material with some level of seriousness. Taking a risky chance with its combination of 2D and 3D animation the movie produces two types of results for both: embarrassingly bad and surprisingly good.At the beginning the 2D animation limps, appears stiff and flat whereas the CG works somehow well especially with the bigger dragon-animations. When the drakonians step in the typical minions' CG somehow begins to look a lot less impressive than the 2D which picks up from time to time in the battle-scenes. At least there wasn't a lack of effort in trying to make the characters look lively even if at times the characters' expressions and motions look ridiculously cheezy and exaggerated. On the voice-acting, nothing really stands out but nothing really annoyed me either. The frantic pace of the story is probably the film's biggest weakness as it tries to rush through the events of the novel and while it offers plenty of interesting plot-elements the film lacks a dynamic the pace would require to feel acceptable and which is only enhanced by the lapses in animation quality. The film none the less makes a valiant effort in trying to convey the story to film, the limitations in budget are most likely the reasons why the attempt is not fully successful, but the sloppiness actually begins to add some entertainment value to the film as well, so I can't say the whole thing was a wasted effort. This is a guilty pleasure for a fan of animated films, where the story and narration for once make some sense but the animation just can't keep up.
... View MoreHow they managed to line up that cast, and then utterly destroy the rest of the production, is beyond me.Animation 0.5/10. It gets the 0.5 because the pictures actually do change. Think the old He-Man show, but worse.Talent 4/10. Fantastic cast, but terribly directed. Flat and monotonous voices, far inferior to the talent levels present. An utter disappointment.Story 6/10. I only watched the first 10 minutes, I simply could not bear anymore. Those 10 minutes did, however, seem to be fairly loyal to the book, which, although excellent, was arguably the weakest of the trilogy, which itself was weaker than the second trilogy. For anyone put off by this cinematic abortion, please do yourselves a favor and read the books. You will not be disappointed.Direction 0/10. There are simply no redeeming qualities to speak of. The movie was horrendously kiddified. Even the books, which are arguably aimed at a teen-aged audience, had a degree of realism. This movie makes Sesame Street look like Pulp Fiction. Considering what the target should have been, given the book's demographic, this is unacceptable. Couple that with the terrible characterization, and I truly hope that the director, whose name I will not speak, finds a job more suited to his abilities, such as flipping burgers or cleaning toilets (he certainly has enough experience with effluent after this abomination).Production: 0/10. Terrible in all aspects. WoTC has made a serious blunder in allowing this film to be produced as it was. Worse still, their ability to procure such a fantastic cast will, after this, likely not reemerge. I cannot believe that Weiss and Hickmann signed off on this. This movie made me hate movies. The director should have a restraining order placed upon him, barring him from ever coming within 200 yards of a movie studio again. Utterly unacceptable.
