Suzanne Kaaren is on trial for her life. A nightclub entertainer she's accused of murdering a fellow performer. But she's got three alibi witnesses and need I tell you who they are.Moe, Larry, and Curly when called to testify wreak havoc on the poor judge's courtroom. Curly is called to testify first and he has a very funny bit when he is called on to remove his hat and swear on the Bible. Since he's carrying a cane he can't quite multi-task. When they do get him on the stand after some futile attempts to elicit testimony, he asks if he and his friends could reenact their testimony. After that the three who are musicians back Suzanne Kaaren in a song. It gets very funny as Larry's violin bow removes the court reporter's toupee, Moe swallows his mouth organ, and Curly's bass fiddle bow becomes a general weapon of war. Believe it or not, the truth does will out.Columbia Pictures for which they toiled released a film called Who Killed Gail Preston two years later. I wonder if the inspiration came from this film where Suzanne Kaaren's character is Gail Tempest? If you look among the courtroom spectators you will find the parents of Moe, Curly, and Shemp Howard. Their only appearance in any of their sons' work. The Stooges wreak havoc and laughs on the criminal justice system.

I've been a fan of the Three Stooges shorts since I was a kid and I've seen them all. The ones with Curly are usually the best but there are some with Shemp that are equally as good. After Shemp, forget it; the shorts with Curly Joe are just plain awful.Disorder In The Court has everything you need in a Three Stooges short. At 16 minutes long it's chocked full of gags, jokes, puns and slapstick. The funniest scene is Curly taking the oath to tell the truth before he takes the witness stand. This routine is a genuine classic and it's funny no matter how many times you see it. Curly also has some great pratfalls in the courtroom as he attempts to hop over a railing. There is plenty of eye gouging, face slapping and ear pulling for even the most seasoned Stooge fan. (I have to throw in that if you like horror films check out Sam Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy with its numerous references to the Three Stooges, of whom he is a big fan.)Five nyuks for this one.

"Disorder in the Court" is a fantastic and well-named Three Stooges comedy. The setting is a courtroom, where Curly, Larry, and Moe all get a chance to go absolutely berserk. Never mind the plot; just enjoy watching the Stooges cause all kinds of havoc! Here are the highlights from this fine film (DON'T read any further until after you have seen it). The boys perform a fine musical interlude (Larry on violin, conductor Moe on harmonica, and Curly on spoons and double bass), with Larry wrestling with a "tarrantula" on his violin bow. The defense attorney (Bud Jamison) leaves the courtroom to find the Stooges out in the hallway playing jacks and disagreeing over onesies, twosies, and fivesies. Larry lets out a Tarzan yell (apparently for no reason) after he snatches the wad of gum off of Moe's nose. Curly tries to knock out the parrot with a mallet but instead knocks out each member of the jury one by one. And finally, "Take off your hat. Raise your right hand. Now put your left hand here. Take off your hat. Raise your right hand," etc."Disorder in the Court" is undoubtedly a classic Three Stooges film, and one of the reasons why is because of its public domain status; all of the TV specials about the Stooges are full of clips from this short. To put it very simply, "Disorder in the Court" is a must-see for every Three Stooges fan.

During the 1930's, there were a fair number of soap opera type films released that take place in courtroom dramas. "Potboilers" is the actual term for such a movie. Obviously, and this was done all the time with the Stooges, this is a takeoff on such a type of movie. I can just see Lionel Barrymore cross examining a witness that's vital to proving his client innocent and BOOM! Here's the Stooges popping in with all their mayhem and anarchy. Example: after removing some chewing gum from Moe's nose, Larry throws it on the floor, stomps on it and starts screaming, "Ahooo! Ahhhhooo!" Moe replies,"You're not in the woods, Tarzan!" *SLAP* And it just keeps going all through this nice little short. A toupee is taken by the boys for a tarantula and Moe grabs the baliff's gun and plugs it five times. More and more and more! You'll have to watch this one more than once so you won't miss any of the fast paced antics.
