David Dhawan and Govinda made a great team in 1990s, after the success of SHOLA AUR SHABNAM,AANKHEN and RAJA BABU. This film was the first to be titled No.1, Followed by HERO NO.1 and many more. This film has shades of Hrishikesh Mukherjee's classic GOLMAAL(1979) Though only the fake double role part, but otherwise it has trademark DD characters and it succeeds in making you laugh. It does also have it's share of 90s nonsense, forced masala ingredients and song n dance, yet the camaraderie of Govinda-Kader Khan works big time, The film has a feeble plot but yet it's entertaining and makes you laugh most of the timeDirection is good Music is decent, the songs became famous especially Main to Raste, Husn Hai Suhana.etcGovinda is hilarious and makes you laugh throughout, Karisma Kapoor is below average as in early days though her timing with Govinda is good Kader Khan is superb as Hoshiyarchand,His chemistry with Govinda is superb Sadashiv Amrapurkar as Shaadiram Garjode(see the name!) is also hilarious, Shakti Kapoor has a small role and is good,Mahesh Anand is as usual, Khulbushan Kharbanda is as usual,Harish and Kanchan are awkward rest are okay
... View More'Coolie No. 1' deserves a watch for the sheer magic of Govinda & Kader Khan. The Supremely Talented Actors, pitch in incredible performances, that stand out. 'Coolie No. 1' directed by David Dhawan, was a Box-Office Smash Hit back in 1995. It's an entertaining film, that is worth your time. A Story about complications within a few people, unfolds on screen, with some really entertaining moments. The Writing Material is up-to the mark, while the Dialogue are excellent. Dhawan's Direction is nice. Cinematography & Editing are decent. Music by Anand-Milind & Shyam-Surender, is foot-tapping. Performance-Wise: Govinda & Kader Khan, as told, deliver incredible performances. And even their on-screen chemistry, is top-notch. Sadashiv Amrapurkar & Shakti Kapoor are funny, as well. Karisma Kapoor is passable. Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Harish, Kanchan & Mahesh Anand lend good support. On the whole, A Must See for Govinda & Kader Khan devotees!
... View MoreGovinda movies are very much an acquired taste so keep that in mind before reading further. This is a typically brainless entertainer. There are scattered laughs, almost all of which come from Govinda himself. Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor, both of whom are perennial David Dhawan staples, seem to be reprising familiar persona. The script is utter rubbish of course, and loses its sense of fun surprisingly fast. Karishma Kapoor is bad. She plays a scatter-brained character which unfortunately got on my nerves. This film is better avoided in my opinion. Overall 2/10
... View MoreCoolie No. 1 is one of the funniest film of the decade. Govinda became possibly known for being a comedy King after this Movie. His earlier work Raja Babu was another Entertainer. Shakti Kapoor won the best comedian for this movie and truly deserved it. The movie has action, romance, family drama and lots of comedy. The weakness in this movie has to be Karishma Kapoor. Karishma Kapoor is one of Bollywood worst actresses. Most of her films are either Flops or Hits because of the actor. Every Karishma Movie I've seen had a deja vu of her always acting childishly immature. Perhaps the director know's this before casting or she just suits the dim witted character like her sister Kareena. Anyway the movie still is a Pure Entertainer. Thanks to Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor the famous comedy duo. Above all Govinda.
