One of the best srk movie ever !! Full of twists and comedy with an amazing storyline
... View MoreIt is the story of a ghost(Marco) who seeks redemption(played by Naseeruddin Shah) from his past sins. For this, he entails the help of a young man Sunder(Shahrukh Khan).Naseeruddin Shah and Shahrukh Khan play their parts to perfection ably supported by Shammi Kapoor. Urmila Mantodkar was a disappointment though. The story suffers from many clichés(like Kunta discovering the stashed gold in his closet only twenty years after) though it remains funny(especially at the last in the cricket match). The movie is ably directed and executed. The songs are average. It's not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.
... View MoreA cute film about a simple village school teacher Sundar (Shahrukh Khan) who is duped by his friend and robbed of all his belongings in Mumbai. He ends up in a graveyard and causes the "resurrection" of a ghost Marco (Naseeruddin Shah). Marco, a die hard criminal, was killed by his henchman Kunta (Tinnu Anand) the day after his wedding as he wished to renounce his bad ways and return the spoils of his crimes. Now Sundar is Marco's connection to the real world and his only way to redemption and eventual release. Along the way Sundar falls in love with Mala (Urmila Matondkar) and helps her and her grandfather (Shammi Kapoor) save their college from Kunta's greed. Who is Mala? Will Marco get his revenge? Watch Chamatkar to find out.The story is simple and familiar with some new twists added in. The young couple are super cute - Shahrukh looks and lives the simple good soul Sundar, Naseer is amazing as ever, Urmila is vivacious. Ashutosh Gowarikar has a meaty role as one of the bad guys. Shammi Kapoor is immense but still entertaining. The film has some good songs - my favorite was Is Pyar Se Meri Taraf Na Dekho, Pyar Ho Jaayega - funny and melodious. The only thing that prevents me from rating this film better is the atrocious fashion show song and dance spectacle. Other than that this is a sweet, simple entertainer with a lesson. It is possible to redeem yourself and simple goodness can make good things happen.
... View MoreIt's unfortunate for non-Hindi speakers like me that this film in unavailable with subtitles, because it's a fun little movie. Here's what I was able to figure out from watching:Sundar (Shahrukh Khan) is a village schoolteacher who is tricked out of his property by an old "friend" who promises him a job in Dubai. The minute he gets off the train in Dubai, he is conned out of all his luggage, and then robbed of all his money. Arriving at his new job, he finds instead that his "friend" has sent a letter explaining that there is no job.Broke and feeling sorry for himself, he winds up that night in a cemetary, where he inadvertently awakens the ghost of a murdered criminal named Marco (Naseerudin Shah) who engages his help to pay back the traitorous thugs who executed him 20 years before. Guided by Marco's ghost (whom no one but Sundar can see) Sundar gets a job at the college that is headed by Marco's father-in-law, and helps Marco settle all his old scores and earn the right to go to heaven. But that's not all! This being a Hindi film, there is of course plenty of music and romance involved, when Sundar falls in love with Marco's daughter.Naseerudin Shah and Shah Rukh Khan are wonderful together, in any language, and this movie has some nifty songs and dances (including a really enjoyable one when Sundar, with the help of the invisible Marco, does "magic" tricks for a crowd of people to raise money for a poor widow and her daughters), a cute story (as far as I can tell) and forgivably bad special effects. There's a little bit of everything: drama, comedy, romance, action, mystery, but none of it is excessively overdone as is so often the case with Bollywood. Not at all a bad way to spend a couple of hours.
