So with the series ending on a high note we get this less than mediocre sequel to the series.Bride of Chucky focuses more on the comedy side of the series & for all the wrong reasons too. The franchise takes place one month after the events of Child's Play 3, where Chucky's remains get stolen by a police officer who agrees to meet a woman named Tiffany, who agrees to give the officer who stole the evidence a hefty sum in exchange for the doll. But she kills the officer & then recites the voodoo chant, bringing Chucky back to life! But this time its not just Chucky whose stuck in a body, Tiffany does the same & gets her soul transferred to a dolls body, thereby the title you see, Bride of Chucky! Then as usual, like what Chucky did when he went solo, the 2 go off on a murderous rampage! The film was ok! But disappointing given the fact that the series from here (Except Curse of Chucky), began to take a stupid comedy turn! Comedy & Horror don't mix! Dark humour comes with the horror if you're hardcore fan, but haha sort of comedy simply doesn't work here. Death scenes which are unintentionally funny work, like with the previous 3 films, while films like this in general that are purposely designed & intended for laughs, try too hard & end up falling flat! The films deaths weren't all that bad, but compared to the previous films, they didn't have the same dark twisted humour. The deaths then were pretty decent (especially in 2 & 3). But here they seemed too comedy laced, unlike the others which were just pure, dark deaths! While here they were deaths, but more on a comical side with humour laced in. The story-line was on the dumb side & didn't follow the formula of the first 3 films. Child's Play is about a killer who transfers his soul into a doll so he can start a new life but re-transferring his soul from the doll to a child's body, simple. But since Child's Play 3 & beyond this film, that story-line seems lost & forgotten! But this film overall was a combination of both good & bad! 5/10

A month after the events of Child's Play 3 after Chucky (voiced by Brad Douriff) was sliced in the fan at the amusement park at the end, it seems Chucky's old flame Tiffany (played by Jennifer Tilly) who finds his remains in a police station evidence room and takes his body back to her place to stitch him up back together. Now Chucky decides after being treated like dirt by her, he transfers her soul into a bridal doll's body as now both must try to be human again, Chucky's original human corpse is buried with an amulet that is called "the heart of Dambella" which they can be human again if they get some humans. Tiffany gets an idea to call her strong model- like male neighbor named Jesse (Nick Stabile) to go to Hackensack New Jersey to deliver dolls to a cemetery in exchange for 500 dollars. Jesse accepts the offer as he decides to take his girlfriend Jade (Katherine Heigl) to go with him to run away from her strict/bossy police officer of an uncle Chief Warren (John Ritter) and are on the road for Chucky is on the loose killing anyone that gets in his way with the help of Tiffany.A mediocre sequel from writer Don Mancini and Hong Kong director Ronny Yu and is the 4th installment of the popular Child's Play franchise. I saw this in theaters as a teen and thought it was OK, yet this was made after the success of Scream and Mancini who thought he ran out of ideas after part 3 thought that Scream was successful and would love to copy the formula that movie had. Ronny Yu who directed the Hong Kong fantasy cult film "The Bride with White Hair" was hired to direct this movie and later on went to make "Freddy vs Jason" in 2003, the film was an attempt to be scary and funny at the same time but falls flat. Jennifer Tilly sure is hot in the first half and did a great job voicing her doll counterpart yet there were some in-jokes like the Creepshow crate with the Freddy glove, a cheap looking Jason mask, a chainsaw that could be Leatherface's and Michael's mask in the evidence room. Then there's that dumb kill where John Ritter whom is one of my favorite actors by the way gets killed by nails that were latched on a powerful glove compartment that no way would actually work with the nails just flying and nailing through his face. Then Chucky cracks a one- liner saying "Why does that face look so familiar" which is suppose to be a funny reference to Hellraiser but isn't as some of the jokes fall flat.I did liked the one-liner where he murders done on Damien (Alexis Arquette) whom is basically a take on goths and Marylin Manson as Chucky says "It ain't the size that counts a hole it's what you do with it". Some of the kills are quite lame with some okay make-up and puppetry effects by Kevin Yagher but the script is mediocre as hell. Lawrence Dane the Canadian actor whom you remember from Scanners and Happy Birthday to Me plays Lt Danson yet some of the characters aren't likable like in Child's Play 2 but the main leads are strangely likable which is the dolls. The doll sex scene was quite far fetched when it was meant to be funny but totally not funny and Chucky's death was poor compared to the first 3 deaths of him but he did said a great line "Go ahead and shoot, i'll be back! i always come back but dying is such a bitch".Then we have the ending which made me go "Oh no, son of chucky!" which is sequel bait ending that leads to "Seed of Chucky" years later.

Seven years after the end of the Child's Play trilogy and ten years after the death of Charles Lee Ray, Chucky (Brad Dourif) returns thanks to his former girlfriend Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly). Stolen from an evidence locker by a cop whose life ends quickly at the blade of Tiffany, the doll is rebuilt and resurrected in a Voodoo for Dummies ceremony. Chucky takes his first victim, a punk who hangs around Tiffany. Meanwhile, Jade (Katherine Heigl) uses a ploy to get out of the watchful eye of Chief Warren Kincaid (John Ritter). Tiffany hopes to renew her relationship with Chucky foolishly believes that the killer had left an engagement ring but the doll wants no such thing. Tiffany locks him up in a playpen but he breaks out and pushes a television into the bathtub with Tiffany.Revived as a wedding doll, Tiff and Chucky conspire to dig an amulet up that was around Charles Lee Ray's neck when he died. Tiff recruits Jesse (Nick Stabile), Jade's rebel boyfriend, to transport the dolls to New Jersey. Jesse gets sidetracked when he stops by Jade's and proposes to marry her. Warren tries to sabotage the trip by planting drugs in Jesse's van but Tiff and Chucky have other plans using a new creative method of murder, shooting a bunch of nails into his face. A pulls over Jesse and almost busts him for drugs but Chucky blows the cop car up by lighting a rag in the fuel tank. They set out for New Jersey but stop in Niagara Falls so Jesse and Jade can tie the knot. Chief Kincaid wakes back up but Chucky makes short work of him.Check out more of this review and others at swilliky.com

Please bear in mind that my harsh criticism is mostly due to my being 30 when I've first started watching the Chucky anthology. Had I been 20 years younger, I would have probably loved it. As an adult Horror enthusiast, each and every Chucky film up till now have been a remarkably unrewarding experience. While attempting to infiltrate the pantheon of slashers (and failing miserably), Chucky has made sure to let everyone know that logic is never a necessity. Freddie and Jason only get banished/defeated, so their return for each of the sequels is at least remotely comprehensible (which is all that's necessary considering mostly everything else about the slasher-monsters' supernatural strength and potency). Chucky, on the other hand, is constantly resurrected. How? How come? Who cares, Chucky's back and he's hilarious! Ha ha ha, right? Just what we want in a Horror film, to be half-entertained by a third rate comedian without a moment of actual fear. The good news is that the fourth sequel recognizes Chucky for what he is - a joke. That's why several scenes present a comic breaking of the 4th wall and some well deserved homages to those who actually succeeded where Chucky would forever fail (like Mike Mayers, Jason Voorhees and Hellraiser). In order to complete the comic effect, Chucky is this time accompanied by a female counterpart, the wonderful Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany, Chucky's Bride. Their interactions and dynamics are quite hilarious.Adjectives such as "comic" and "hilarious" have absolutely no place in a Horror film. True, Freddie has always been the ultimate morbid comedian, but the story-line and plot have been eerie and at times terrifying (words that in no manner can be used to describe anything about any of the Chucky films so far). Just like the first 3 films, Bride of Chucky is good for a few laughs with your friends on Halloween, or maybe even as a drinking game. However, as a Horror film? Another moderately entertaining let down.
