First, Alec Baldwin can no longer be taken seriously because of his politics. His choice has been to malign (not satirize) his president. Second, Dermott Mulroney or Mullet McDermott or whoever he is phones in his performance as a one dimensional douche. The guy who plays Gavin is forgettable, as is Do-me More, a willing acolyte for Hollyweird society.Plot: Douche Bag gets caught breaking the law. Douche Bag's wife has to perform commie service to atone for being married to said Douche: shoe-horned into reading for Scum Bag blind guy, after forgettable Petty Thief gets tossed by Scum Bag. Everyone is all part of the same problem, that is, they are all unlikeable as "people".Eventual betrayal, murder and escape. But, we don't get what we really want: to see them destroy themselves and the film stock go up in flames.Set your DVR to ERASE.

A film with an interesting plot, an educational one about the values of disabled people, those who struggle to live and forget their disability. A blind man is a human being who can see through his soul and his feelings. A blind man can write books, he/she can taste good food, good wine and even enjoy healthy air from uncontaminated environments. Those experiences are clear in the film. Above all, there is the fact that the blind can love and desire, live happy moments with their partner. The film exposes all these virtues of the blind person and the baseness of a rich person, unable to maintain a reciprocally affable relationship, and even capable of hitting someone who does not see. Intelligence on the side of the supposedly weak and the ruin on the side of the opulent.

Not far from Monte Carlo on the Côte d'Azur of Southern France lies the picturesque town of Eze. The name of Eze was one of the small details that were rolled into the combination romance and thriller called "Blind." The action of the film is triangulated around the strange relationship of a blind author and teacher of creative writing; a cruel, ruthless, and crooked entrepreneur; and the businessman's wife, who was at one point drawn into the shallow yet adrenaline-pumping lifestyle of her husband. But her world changes when she is introduced to the creative writer who has compensated for his blindness by being attentive to his other senses and to the intuitive side of his fellow human beings.At one point in the film, the blind author Bill Oakland (Alec Baldwin) recognizes the scent of the perfume of Suzanne Dutchman (Demi Moore) as Muguet Des Bois, and her reaction is significant. This is an unusual moment when someone has complimented her on one of her personal choices. The moment is especially poignant to Suzanne when she discovers that her husband Mark (Dylan McDermott) has been unfaithful to her and has given the lover the gift of Chanel No. 5. Mark probably never even knew what was Suzanne's favorite perfume.Baldwin, Moore, and McDermott are all excellent in their respective roles. The film is especially strong in the details, such as the title of Bill's next book ("Nothing Left to Win or Lose") that sums up the position he has adopted after he lost his eyesight in the auto accident that took the life of his wife.One weakness of the film was in its less-than-scintillating dialogue that was clearly a stretch for the actors to perform with credibility or even a straight face. When the jealous Mark complains to Suzanne about her relationship with Bill, he waxes poetic in suggesting that "Bill is a short story; I'm your novel." Woof! Lines like that one did not sound like they were coming from the boy from Far Rockaway who pulled himself by his bootstraps to become "Mr. Dutchman."The film was on much firmer footing with the broader strokes of character transformation, especially in the change that occurs in Suzanne. In her budding relationship with the blind author, it appears for the first time in her life that she has made contact with a person who recognizes her inner, fragile qualities and ultimately treats her as an equal, as opposed to an object. In the process, she comes to radiate the special wisps of sunlight that fall on the seascape of Eze.

As a romantic at heart I love a good love story and this is certainly a good'n. I was so surprised to see Demi Moore I wasn't sure it was even her to begin with. She's great in this and really fills the part well, as does Baldwin. They have a great on screen chemistry as well as presence so whenever they are featured together on screen it works very well indeed. Dylan McDermott is also very good with a particularly powerful performance as the husband of Suzanne Dutchman (Moore's character). The rest of the cast is very able; Viva Bianca, Steven Prescod (who isn't listed as a cast member on IMDb) and particularly Eden Epstein are very good here. Gerardo Rodriguez also stands out with the little he is given. There is just enough involvement in the story from the supporting cast to make the film work well without overshadowing the leads or complicating he story unnecessarily. I love the way this balance has been expertly applied.The film has a lovely easy free flowing pace that progresses effortlessly. Scenes shift easily as the story develops and anticipation is with you on the whole journey. Practically everything is done well. Nothing is over exaggerated or laboured, nothing is weak or too understated. Great credit here to the production team.It's not a complicated story by any means just a simple tale of flowering love in modern times between two people n situations we can all identify with. If anything my gripe would be that it is too straight forward. You won't be surprised by any of the developments, there are no twists, turns or diversions from the rather uncomplicated path, and the outcome though quite delightful can be seen a mile off. This isn't always such a bad thing; plots with over complicated story lines twists and surprises are often badly done, exaggerated or overused to the detriment of the film, which I find grossly annoying. However a little more drama 'may' have added a star or two more to my rating.As it stands its still a very good film, very enjoyable and definitely recommended.
