Some flaws of the original show are corrected with this remake ....but new flaws are created with the remake where none had existed before!Battlestar purist are gonna hate to hear this but.... the original B.G. was a much flawed creature. For example.... in the 25 years that B.G. has been around, I have probably watch the original pilot episode/movie at least 10 or 15 times. And every time I 've seen it, I am always bugged by the fact that there are 12 home planets and not a single one of those 12 planets has a military base on it, not one of those 12 planets had satellites with long range scanners to see that the Cylon invasion force was coming? Not one of those 12 planets had an antiaircaft missile defense system?...Apparently not!!!!! Even when I watch it for the first time as a 9 year old Kid I asked those questions as the Cylons Raiders went totally unchallenged & unopposed as they delivered death & destruction to the 12 colonies. THE COMMON SENSE REALIST IN ME SAYS THAT THE 12 HOME WORLDS WOULDN'T HAVE NEEDED ANY BATTLESTARS TO DEFEND THEM, BECAUSE THEY WOULD'VE HAD MISSLE DEFENSE SYSTEMS AND POWERFUL MILITARY BSAS AND THEY WOULD'VE ALSO HAD LONG RANGE SCANNERS MOUNTED ON Satellites AND THEY WOULD'VE KNOWN FAR FAR IN ADVANCE THAT THE ATTACK FORCE WAS COMING AND WOULD'VE BEEN ARMED TO THE HILT AND READY TO BLAST THEM INTO KINGDOME COME WHEN THEY ARRIVED. .....i THINK i'VE MADE MY POINTexit 1978...........enter 2003The heavily flawed Cylon destruction of the colonies that was ridiculously done in the original series was all corrected by the remake...In the remake we learn that Cylons are humanoid robots, and the the colonies are all on the same planet. Unlike the original the remake is much smarter...in the new one the humanoid cylons use sex as a weapon to trick a very young and very horny Boltar into giving them the codes to shut down the planetary defense and shut down all computers systems (including the computers inside the Viper cockpits). After all communications are down and the humans cannot respond against the Cylons. The Cylon's then destroy the planet with Nucular missiles, and plunge it into a post deadly nuclear Holocaust......this is 1000 times more believable& smarter than the original...The remake gets it RIGHT.I still didn't like the concept of changing Starbuck & Boomer to female characters..at first the SCI-FI Channel promised that this was done to enhance the story.....but Starbuck was still a smoking a Cigar, flirting, gambling and brawling..and NO it did not enhance the story at all ...In fact I found myself winding why the just didn't go ahead and hire a male actor to play that role because it wouldn't have compromised any of the story if they had've and it would have made so many fans/purist of the original series B.G. more acceptable to the new series...that remains a mystery to me.The only thing I was strongly objectable too was that the new female Boomer is really a cloaked Cylon spy and doesn't even know it....Was that really needed???? again this change accomplished absolutely nothing and again left the viewer wondering WHY DID THEY DO THAT??Its almost like the 1978 version and the 2003 version counter balance each other , because all of the flaws of the original are corrected in the remake but the 2003 version created many new flaws the were done right the first time in the original version..If you could chop them up and re-edit them into one movie it would be perfect.I also didn't like the fact that the wonderful soundtrack of Stu Phillips wonderful theme music was recycle for the remake. In fact the music in the remake pretty much is nothing more than a drum track and some keyboard music...I was very disappointed with that.I was also disappointed that the new 2003 remake didn't give a lot of good fighter to fighter combat/space battles. We only got to see a couple of skirmishes and that was all. This is a supposed to be a space opra not a soap opra.My last complaint of the new 2003 remake was the sound effects (or the lack there of) ...In the opening sequence we see the destruction of a Human space station. As you are watching the space station explode into a huge fire ball....all you hear is total silence. The happened again when the Cylons Nuked the home world. We get to see the blast but we get to hear only silence.....I didn't shell out a small fortune for my Dolby 5.1 Digital surround sound to see silent explosions -OH! HELL NO!!!!! I hope some of the series editors log onto IMDb and read this!!! When I see explosions on my T.V. screen I want to hear THUNDER in speakers filling my living room with reverb that rattles my windows !!!!

Spoilers for both episodes:I tend to like sci-fi shows more than other kinds of TV shows. Doctor Who is currently my favorite show, but I think Battlestar Galactica might give it a run for it's money if these two episodes are representative of the show's overall quality. The fact that this was made in 2003 is really, really impressive- the directing, acting, writing, and music are all really good, and the special effects hold up very well. All the characters are really likable. Episode 1 is more action packed, and episode 2 is slower but much more intriguing. My favorite scenes are the ones between Gaius and Number 6, especially in episode 2- the producers do an impeccable job at distinguishing what's in Gaius' head and what is really going on with huge shifts in the music and in the camera work. I have to say, Boomer was a good character, and the cliffhanger at the end of episode 2 really shocked me. You can tell how much effort the producers put into making this as good as it could possibly be.I can't wait to see where this series goes next.

I would recommend this version of Battlestar Galactica to the 8 and older crowd, in addition to any and all SciFi lovers. The sets were detailed and truly exceptional in some places (probably computer graphics). There are plenty to tech toys and eye candy in this movie. The characters help draw you into the film. Yet, although Battlestar Galacttica does move along quite nicely, it gives you plenty of time to catch your breath without getting bored. In this version of Battlestar Galactica, Starbuck is a woman. I guess that was some of the political correctness the director/writer wanted to show. I found it good entertainment but not a classic. I give it four thumbs up.

In a far away galaxy, a peace treaty between Cylons, a race of machines and the humans is broken. The Cylons being more advanced destroy the colonies that are inhabited by the humans until the only survivors that are left, are in space....In an old battle ship known as Battlestar Galactica.I read the other reviews and thought...It can't be that bad....And its not.... The show has a genuinely good cast who provide satisfactory performances; I liked the relationship between Captain Apollo and Commander Adama...I found Grace Park very beautiful.... And I thought that James Callis who plays Gaius to be hilarious....especially when he is the only one who sees Number six....Hilarious! The only thing I didn't like was Star Buck and Cononel Tigh....they didn't do much expect fight...Overall a satisfactory TV show and I will definitely watch the TV show.
