I picked up a copy of this DVD in Japan, and I was actually pleasantly surprised. Corman isn't always known for his quality films, but this one is enjoyable and fairly socially-conscious. The directing is great, the producing is good, the writing is solid, and the acting is surprising, considering most of the actors aren't listed on IMDb as having done any other projects. That said, Vargas was the standout. The story follows Reno, a young guy who works in an auto shop, as he gets involved in the world of drag racing and gangs. He falls for Dina, gang member Vargas' sister. The racing scenes are really good, considering how small the production budget must have been (this is Roger Corman, after all). Probably one of the most interesting aspects of the film is how it brings in the politics of migrant workers, not too common a subject. The settings are beautiful, the music is awesome, and overall, the movie is well-made. Just a really entertaining little film.
