Unlike the many outraged fans on this page already, I did not read all the books before watching this film. Admittedly, this was not as good as the previous two installments. However I felt the characterization did not stray too far from their original counterparts, and I enjoy a good war-centered movie from time to time. I will admit, the relationship between Anne and Jack Garrison seemed forced and simply thrown in to create a love triangle. I thought it was unnecessary and the movie would have still been good without it. Also, there were a few questionable parts as Anne traversed Europe, but it kept me interested and there never seemed to be a dull moment. I did wish to see more of Anne and Gilbert together, especially after not seeing him very much in "Anne of Avonlea."So if you are a die-hard Anne of Green Gables reader/fan, don't watch the movie because you'll find it's not very close to the source material. But if you are like me and just like enjoying a good movie, then I would recommend it.

This was probably the most pathetic movie I've ever seen. It uses the lovingly created LM Montgomery characters in a far-out, unrealistic WWI plot. I think the film makers had the basic plot, then got the idea to plug Anne, Gilbert, et al, into it. Total joke. I am so glad I checked the movie out from a library instead of renting it -- it just wasted my time and not my money. I really rue the 3 hours I wasted watching this. I see that Sullivan and company made another Anne movie, with Barbara Hershey and Shirley MacLaine, that is probably one more attempt to mine the Anne ore. I probably won't bother seeing it, after seeing this one. Total abysmal failure. Sullivan should be ashamed.

The problem with this film is not the film itself. It is entertaining enough and there is lovely chemistry between Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie. Fans had been longing for a long time to see these two in the roles that they own so much. But... the problem really is that producer Kevin Sullivan thought he had the right to change the life story of characters created by someone else. He thought that Anne's story was not dramatic enough (and the legal disputes with the heirs didn't help) and decided to invent something that would be bland and entertaining. By doing this he overruled the expectations of millions of fans that loved Anne's story - he had the perfect chance, perfect actors and a great story (who in their right mind can say that Anne's House of Dreams is not dramatic enough??) and he missed that. It is really unfortunate and sad. Why call them Anne and Gilbert when they obviously are not them?

Such a shame that this one was ever made. So bad in so many ways. Anne in this film bears no resemblance to the Anne in the previous two films and has no connection at all to the Anne of the books - which Anne of Green Gables story is this film supposed to be continuing? There is a continuing story to Anne of Green Gables: L M Montgomery wrote 8 books in the Anne series, why were these stories not adapted for film? I was so pleased when I found that this film had been made and so disappointed when I watched it. The first two DVDs are practically worn out with re-watching, this one I watched once and then sold on ebay. Many apologies to the poor soul who bought it off me.
