I've always had a weakness for anthology horror films, so this one, about a babysitter watching a mysterious VHS tape secretly given to her charges, intrigued me, but the end results are only a mixed bag. Built up from several short films made by this film's makers, this comes off as a patchwork, vaguely reminding me of the trainwreck, Night Train To Terror, only not as howlingly awful.Vignettes are about a demonic clown kidnapping women, a silly looking alien invading a woman's home, and another story of the same clown terrorising another young girl on the highway late at night, with a twist which doesn't seem plausible, so much as it seems like the filmmakers desperately just wanted a pointless surprise twist ending. The compilation film works better when it focuses on mood and atmosphere, because it is good looking and well filmed ( for the most part ) and it makes good use of colours, in a lot of scenes, but it goes way overboard trying to make the short films presented on the VHS look like old film footage, with artificial scratches, and static on the soundtrack. No VHS tape ever had things like that. Nor did a VHS tape ever have such ridiculous colour saturation, as is show here. The torture effects drown out what atmosphere is built in the other scenes. The twist ending is well done, if predictable. Overall, go into this with middle of the road expectations, it will be mildly amusing, and at only 76 minutes ( without the opening and closing credits ) it's a quick sit.

After being a few years late I finally got down to watching All Hallows' Eve and I have to say that even though it wasn't amazing, I enjoyed it. All Hallows Eve is a series of three short stories with a wrap- around story. The introductory wraparound story is that a babysitter takes two kids trick or treating on Halloween night and one of the kids is given an unmarked VHS tape. Not allowing the kids to watch more than the first story, the babysitter tucks them into bed and watches the rest of the tape alone. Curiosity killed the cat, as they say. Anyways as a whole the movie is pretty decent, the effects pretty B- movie at times (especially the alien) but I enjoyed watching it and would recommended it. Mainly for the clown though, the best thing about All Hallows Eve is the clown. Creepily playful Art the Clown.

I put this on expecting a low budget laugh. I actually said to my husband "I fancy something not too serious". Well I laughed a little and although its not 'too serious' its certainly not light-hearted.It starts like a typical horror film. Cue an annoying young boy and some shocking acting from the fist video clip. You find yourself sucked in but not sure why. The second video clip (which generally has been received badly) is entertaining but when the third video clip starts..sh*t gets real. Its terrifying. The clown is horrific. The final ending is unexpected. This film left me scared to walk around the house for the rest of the night. It left me feeling incredibly uneasy. But your left wanting more.It has its flaws and has lots of frustrating victim moments where your screaming at the screen for them to do the sensible thing. All Hallows Eve is a must see for fans of horror. Just go for clown if anything.

For every good anthology horror film, there's about ten really bad ones. And with the recent release of 'All Hallows Eve 2,' which I'll be reviewing at a later date - I thought I'd go back a few years and watch the first of the series. 'All Hallows Eve' gives us three short stories, plus a finale thrown in for good measure. The trouble with taking the three story route, is you don't have enough material to make up for the weak tales. The sequel corrects the mistake of it's predecessor by extending the number of short stories. The first short is without a doubt the worst. It's a tale I like to call - 'Underground Clownapping Satanist.' Story starts with a woman waiting for her train to arrive, and ends up in an underground tunnel, with people wearing really bad make up. It's some of the most senseless random rubbish you're going to find in any anthology flick. The second short is slightly more tolerable. It's what I call - ''Slumber Party Alien Predator Abduction.'' Yes, I realize 'VHS 2' already beat me to it, but that didn't stop Damien Leone from ripping off the story. Female home all alone, has to defend herself against Aliens that watched 'Predator' one too many times. The third short is the best, and should have been extended for the entire 90 minutes, saving us from the previous disasters. It's what I call - 'Thanks for The Limbs, Lady.' 'Art The Clown' takes over, and delivers something along the lines of 'Thanks For the Ride, Lady,' if any of you remember that dandy from 'Creepshow 2.' A far less enjoyable version, of course, but still not as bad as the previous stories.Random Ramblings of a Madman: The final shot of the film is somewhat enjoyable, as we don't really see that type of outcome in many films, but the stories here are simply dull. Let's see if ''All Hallows Eve 2' improves on it's predecessor.
