Andy is an air raid warden. When he gets the word that a blackout is on, it's up to him to make sure it's enforced in his neighborhood. An obstreperous goat interferes with his duty in this dated but funny Walter Lantz cartoon. The air raid warden was an important officer on the home front during the Second World War; in the event of invasion -- and it was a real fear -- it was expected the invasion would be by air and darkness was the only defense.Despite the serious underpinnings of this cartoon, it is a fine effort, from the gag involving Andy's counterpane at the start to the final one in which he tackles the goat. Its serious nature is indicated by the background work, which includes the outdoor scenes, done in a style reminiscent of the Fleischer Superman cartoons. It may be a bit foreign to the modern viewer, but this is a fine cartoon for its era.
