Seriously, youngsters under the age of 10 years have NO business watching such dark, dramatic stuff that has war fare sequences, firm, serious talking, and suggestive themes, especially that infamous make-out scene on that "Hooked on Sonics" episode. That are also bad, partially-nude female role models, such as Princess Sally is more of an airheaded mammal. When I was a kid, there were two Sonic cartoons that aired during that period. One called "Adventures of Sonic", which is more kid friendly, and they aired it at a time that children would have to go to school. Another called "Sonic SatAM", which is more for much older children, was aired at a time where small children can access. I don't know what the networks were thinking, which makes me wonder if one network was preventing the children from watching a rather kid friendly show by airing it during school hours and trying to get the little ones to watch a rather diverse show at a time they aren't going to school, which makes me infuriated. It also makes me wonder if the other network wasn't trying to encouraging the little ones into terrorism and sensuality at an early age. It was bad enough when Cartoon Network aired "O Canada" that had shorts, which were aimed at adult audiences. Personally, I ain't recommending this to a small child before their preteen years.
... View MoreThanks to Creepypasta's version of Sally.exe, I finally got to see this brilliant show much better then it! I was just born when the series ended and I'm sure it was a great buzz back then. It's sad that it only lasted two seasons like I would've loved to have found out what Snively was planning!I applaud the cast who were involved in this because honestly, the actors were excellent at playing their characters. Although Jaleel White disappointed me in Sonic Underground, he didn't disappoint me this time! Sally and Sonic were so adorable on this as usual, I'm glad Archie comics got the original guys back on the SEGA list!I have to say, Antoine Depardieu was really hilarious. I loved how the group tease him on how much of a scardy cat he is and how he mixes up his words just because he's a humble Frenchman! I wish himself and Bunnie got married on this like the comic book series! Seeing him wanting Sally doesn't make any sense to me to be honest! It's sad to think that Christine Cavanaugh isn't with us no more, she was such a great Bunnie to this, RIP ♡I was thrilled to have known Tim Curry played Sally's dad, I would love to have seen him more. It's really no fair that he just only appeared once! Even Jim Cunnings as Eggman was awesome too like he does an evil voice pretty good for someone who would play good guys a lot! I'm proud to be a sonic fan and got a chance to see it 20 nearly 21 years later! :D
... View MoreAlongside "Batman: The Animated Series", "Sonic the Hedgehog" is my favorite 90's animated TV series. Reasons being: 1: Quoting Doug Walker's "Nostalgia Critic", "...taking a bright, relatively plot less video-game, and turning it into a dark, gloomy, and kind of epic show." 2: Wonderfully constructed characters, each having distinct personalities, and playing off of one another with remarkable chemistry. Antoine is particularly hilarious because of his obvious wussy french nature and normally completely useless on missions, though he did capture Robotnik temporarily at one point. Sonic, of course, is as SEGA intended him to be: a kick-ass teenage hedgehog with an attitude, but he really does take his job seriously, though at times the other Freedom Fighters deem his actions immature. Sally is a wonderful love interest for Sonic, playing around with him making him think she'll be with Antoine or someone else just to mess with his head, and argue frequently. My favorite instances are when they take something the other says and just throw it back at them effortlessly. Rotor (his design in season 1 is much better, and you barely see him in season 2, but that's a minor nitpick) is a genius walrus with a knack for machinery. Tails is a young two tailed fox who can fly, obviously, and often struggles with being ignored for being little, when really he is quite smart and takes initiative whenever needed. Bunnie "Rabot" is a cyborg rabbit with incredible strength, a strong southern accent, and a very loving disposition. Uncle Chuck is a loving and likable uncle to Sonic the Hedgehog, who was unfortunately "robotizized" by Robotnik, and thus was under his control. He eventually gets his free will back by fighting from the inside of his robotic body, and starts to be a inside man listening for Robotniks plans and giving the Freedom Fighters a chance. There are several other characters throughout the series, such as Dulcy the dragon and Sallys father King Acorn, and all are enjoyable and essential to the storyline.3: The villains, some of the most enjoyable baddies you'll come across in cartoons. Julien, now Ivo Robotnik, is not one of those villains that is trying to take over the world. He already did, and has built an enormous empire of pollution and evil robots to serve him, robotizizing several Mobians to create more servants. And on top of being one bad ass and completely evil construct, his voice (provided by Jim Cummings) is one of the coolest voices ever, just adding onto his villainy. Snively, his wimpy and tiny nephew, is constantly waiting head and foot for Robotnik, but later down the line Snively develops a real loathsome hate for his uncle, and by the end of season 2, you clearly see he is ready to take up his uncles mantle after he had disappeared. Ixis Naugus is brought in briefly as an old nemesis of Robotnik, and proves to be a very dangerous foe as a wizard, for both Robotnik and the Freedom Fighters, and actually joins up with Snively at the end of season 2, hence the red eyes during the last shot.4: Superb voice-work and animation, top notch for the 90's, such as Jaleel White as Sonic the Hedgehog, Jim Cummings as Dr. Robotnik, and even Tim Curry as King Acorn, and every other characters, whoever may have voiced them, do a thoroughly good job with their characters. Animation is quite good, superb at times, from the dark, uninviting city of Robotropolis, the the green, pleasant village of Knothole, this world is created wonderfully with great detail along with very well done character models and animations.5: Story, not your everyday "hero saves the day every single time" story lines for a cartoon. The good guys don't always win, there are quite a few times they either fail a mission, or lose someone they dearly cared about. This really pulls you in, because it's not all fun and games, despite being about a bunch of furry animals rebelling against an overweight fat man, and that's what makes it so intriguing. And each episode seems attached to the episode before, their actions affecting what will happen next most of the time, especially in the second season where several episodes were building up to the "Doomsday Project" episode. And so, with complex characters, wonderful animation and voice acting, dark storyline and great villains, "Sonic the Hedgehog" is definitely worth a look, even if you are not a "Sonic Fan". Only downside to this show, it was cut off at Season 2, and left it on something of a cliffhanger, again a minor nitpick. Definitely one of the best cartoons to come out of the 90's.9.5/10
... View MoreWhen I found this after the nostalgia critic's review, I could not believe that ABC canceled this! The fact of the matter is, Sonic the Hedgehog, or SonicsatAM, was simply put, fantastic.Unlike other shows based on video games, this show had effort. It had a strong consistent plot, characters that developed, great animation, and just kept many watchers hooked. The story centered around our hero Sonic and a group of freedom fighters trying to free the planet Mobius from the rule of the evil Dr. Robotnik. Robotnik is actually threatening if you can believe it. He has a dark evil personality and a dark evil voice, an army of robots, a henchman named Snively, and a machine called the robotisiser. Each episode basically involved Sonic and the freedom fighters either breaking into Robotnik's layer and sabotaging one of his creations, or just simply fighting off his attacks. The freedom fighters consist of Princess Sally Apricorn, Antione, Tails, Rotter, and Bunny Rabot. All these characters developed, except for Antoine. Antoine really just bugged me, he was the french stereotype, and was Meant for comic mischief. Sally is by all means 100 times more likable than Amy, she is basically one of the leaders of the freedom fighters (as well as Sonic's love interest) Bunny is a half bunny half robot who was saved just before she was fully robotized.Rotter is the handy-man, but he was much better in the first season. Snively is Robotnik's henchman and nephew, who until the end of the series was just abused by Robotnik. Now I bet some of you are wondering, why did i give this series only 9 and not 10 stars? Well let me turn you to the last episode and what I consider to be the absolute BIGGEST cliffhanger of all time! On the season 2 finale, Sonic and Sally set out to destroy Robotnik's Doomsday Machine. They are successful and as Robotnik tries to escape, he is ultimately caught in the explosion of the machine, the freedom fighters celebrate, Sonic and Sally share a kiss, and all is well right? WRONG! Back at the ruins, it turns out Snively had hid in a pod under the base and survived the explosion and is excited to see that Robotnik is gone, he plans to take over and succeed where Robotnik failed. He also claims that he is not alone as a pair of glowing red eyes appear in the pod next to him.Now that all sounds cool right? Well its too damn bad we may never know what happened considering ABC leaders shut the show down because of Power Rangers. (Go to fans united for sonicsatam for more info)The series ended on a cliffhanger and to this day annoys people to no end. its sad to see such a great show end like this, just when it was getting better too. What more can I say about the show except one of Sonic's catchphrases "Its way past cool!"
