Tad Dorgan, who signed his cartoons simply "Tad" was a very influential and successful early cartoonist, known for his word-play as well as his outrageous drawings. This cartoon, based on "Judge Rummy's Divorce Suit" is a sequence involving buying a corset for his wife. It's an attempt to meld the conventions of the comic strip with film comedy and is not terribly successful. It's merging of extreme hard-knock slapstick with the sort of exaggeration available in comic strips does not track well with either medium and it would require other workers in the field to develop their own internal logic (nowadays known as the "Cartoon Laws of Physics") to succeed. The sort of rubber tube animation shown here would become important during the changeover to sound cartoons a decade later but would decline through its own overuse.
