I wish I could give this a zero.I have been on a horror movie binge for about 4 months now.. and so I've watched close to 100 horror films thanks to Netflix and Amazon Prime, and so this one came up next- I don't seek out certain films, I literally just click "next" and keep watching, and for the most part they are at LEAST entertaining. This movie came up in my Amazon Prime cue tonight and so I watched it.. I *thought* it was about an hour and a half in because it was PAINFULLY slow, but I paused it and it was barely 45 minutes. This movie creeps along, not at not a scary, thrilling pace- but at a slow.. horrible, non-informative, HORRIBLE acting, unbelievable plot and even worse script, pace.I found myself pausing it to go do other things because the acting on Eric Robert's parts were so painful to watch.. it was like he was reading his lines from a huge cue card or something. Slow, non-caring lines. Delivered almost out of tune with the rest of the cast. The script is terrible, yes, but good actors should be able to make it work and he looks like he just gave up, drank a beer (or 10) and waltzed in the set and read his lines less then half-heartedly.Deb Twiss showed *some* promise with the crap-plot..but then just let it go go go as the movie fell apart so did her acting. Literally just screaming words into the air with no actual tears, sobbing and something you'd see in a parody movie. I kept burying my face in my hands when her parts came up because it was so hard to watch and it gave me second hand embarrassment.I am not being harsh.. I have watched about a hundred horror films since October and this is the first one that made me sign-up for IMDb and actually write a review because it was THAT bad I had to get it out.The script, the plot, the acting AND the pace is horrible. To top it all off the editing was 100% off. Non-cohesive and by the time they start explaining anything the movie is over.. the only redeeming quality about this entire movie was the guinea pig.The 1 star goes to Smudgey.

I was not expecting much from this movie but still I ended up feeling extremely disappointed with this. The acting was awful & Eric Roberts seemed to think he did not need to act in this & just cruised through it without effort. Roberts can put in a great performance when he wants to I was sad watching him in this. The story seemed to just drag & I could not wait for it to end & in fact I fell asleep with boredom towards the final chapter. The child actor was not convincing at all. Roberts co-star Deborah Twiss upped the pace as her acting was up a league from the rest of the cast. Lastly I ended up in the dog house with my girl for making her sit through this abysmal movie. Not frightening at all. Plot 2 Acting 2 Fright factor 0

A Cry From Within is a Hitchcokian Haunted House thriller with which is Tentpoled by an amazing comeback performance by Cathy Moriarity and a truly frightening performance by LA Idie actress Heather Aitken as Cathy's character age 26. Heather is a dead ringer for the young Cathy and the camera loves them both. The script by Deb Twiss is terrific. Anyone over the age of 10 can see this film (one horrifying scene is inappropriate for younger kids). This is not a slasher film but is really scary. Eric Roberts finally is given a chance to play a charming lead and the chemistry between Deb Twiss and him is palpable. Veterans Robert Vaughn, James McCaffrey, and Eliza Roberts are effective although McCaffrey goes a bit over the top in the finale.Judy Beecher is fine as the (old) mother. Zach Miller, a first time feature director does well. Deb Twiss' daughter, Sydney McCann, is fine in a focal role and her son, Jatthew McCann, although acting with charm is given little to do. Go see or rent this film if you liked the 1963 version of The Haunting.

Caught a secret screening of "A Cry From Within" and was amazed at how well the movie was. Rather than being just another "haunted house" movie, "A Cry From Within" gives us a story, with believable characters, that we actually care about. The film, starts with a slow burn, then out of nowhere, jolts us into the heart of story, and never lets up. The films awesome camera work, really enhanced the uneasiness of the movie. Without giving to much away, the scene, with the toy night vision goggles, and a very dark basement, had everyone in the theater on the edge of their seats. Eric Roberts, and Cathy Moriarty turn in great performances, and their enthusiasm for their roles shine on screen. But the real stars of the movie where Sydney, and Matthew McCann. I had no idea they were both brother and sister in real life, but both steal the show, and really round out the movie. All in all, "A Cry From Within" is a great horror movie, that choose to do things the hard way, and avoided clichés that have pledged horror movies these last few years. It's a fun horror movie, and I highly recommend it.
