I don't really know why this movie is rated this (kind of) high grade. Basically everything I seen were cliché, young couple buying a dog, main character falling inlove with "random" friendly and cute girl, because his current girlfriend appears to be a b***. Actors were good, acting was good too, but I expect this thing to be rated 4-5 stars not 7.7.
... View MoreWhile watching "50/50", I had the strange experience of being an "outsider looking in" at the events transpiring on the screen. Having never battled cancer myself, I found it difficult to make any judgement on the actions. For a basic plot summary, this movie sees a young man (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. As he struggles to cope with the diagnosis & treatment of his disease, he is "helped along" (in a variety of different ways) by a greenhorn therapist (Anna Kendrick), his smothering mother (Anjelica Huston), and his "best bud" (Seth Rogen). There are times when this movie seems downright ridiculous and seems to veer from any coherent narrative. However, there are also moments that will bring tears to your eyes. It is a very strange flick in that sense. The reason for the strange-ness? The crazy collection of characters present. Levitt himself proves me than capable of carrying the show, and his relationship with "Kendrick" provides probably the best moments in the film. But then there are the auxiliary cast, who you will alternately hate and appreciate in equal doses. I'm usually a fan of complex characters, but in "50/50" I would actually use the word "uneven" to describe them. Thus, I have to give this film a middle-of-the-road rating for now (perhaps at some other point in my life I will appreciate it more/less). It's like those personality tests you take in college that ask you to rate something on a "scale of 1-5". When you aren't quite sure how you feel, you give it a three.
... View MoreThis is possibly the best movie I have ever seen, and it stars Seth Rogen! I thought before watching this film it would be an average comedy that just uses cancer as a joke, but I was very surprised. The acting from Joesph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen is so realistic and emotional. I was surprised by how funny this film was and how dramatic and sad it was too. The journey of Joesph having cancer is probably the best representation of someone dealing with cancer I have ever seen in a movie. Every character is well acted and written, with all of them having memorable and interesting personalities. You haven't seen this movie already, you need to watch it now!

View MoreCancer survivor and screenwriter Will Reiser provides us a great and entertaining dramedy about a difficult topic in 50/50.This film that stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Morgen together with Anna Kendrick,Bryce Dallas Howard and Anjelica Houston provides us a story about young man's battle with cancer. It was loosely based on Reiser's own personal experience when he himself was battling with cancer himself. The story involves Adam, who happens to be a public radio journalist in Seattle who happens to be in a relationship with Rachael and bestfriends with Kyle. After experiencing back pains,he goes to a doctor to consult about it.Later,it was revealed by his doctor that he is suffering from schwannoma neurofibrosarcoma or having cancerous tumor in the spine. It was later learned that Adam's chances of survival is 50% or 50/50 as the movie's title suggest. The screenplay revolves around how he battles with cancer from his friendship with his best buddy, his relationship with his girlfriend, the friends he met at chemotherapy who happens to be cancer patients themselves, his relationship with his mother, and his awkward relationship with his psychotherapist.Reiser's screenplay was definitely a great story about cancer patients. It was definitely moving and it captures the viewers' heart especially as we get through Adam's situation in battling cancer. We see how changes in his relationships take place. We definitely feel sorry for being young and immature in facing this disease as well as the lack of needed support he is getting from a loud-mouthed and dick bestfriend Kyle, his cheating girlfriend Rachael, his parents - a mother who constantly worries and a father who is suffering from the advanced stages of dementia - and his inexperienced psychotherapist Katherine, who apparently is more interested in having a date with him rather than helping him psychologically battle the situation he is currently facing. In the end,we feel happy for Adam as he managed to survive after undergoing an extremely dangerous situation despite the somewhat lack of support that he is getting around him. Added to that,it also provides a wonderful film that will serve as humorous inspiration for people who have cancer.
