Biography

Kay Proctor is a British filmmaker and documentarian known for her work on socially conscious topics. Raised in Somerset, her interest in storytelling began with family stories, especially those shared by her grandparents. Following her grandmother's passing in 2021, Proctor dedicated herself to capturing stories that contribute to social understanding, a mission she pursues through her brand, ProctorPictures. Her recent short documentary, I’ll Just Have Cats, explores the experiences of lesbians navigating the complex and often under-discussed process of becoming parents through methods like IUI and IVF. This film has won accolades for journalism and production from the Royal Television Society in 2024. Proctor’s work is distinguished by her commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices and examining LGBTQ+ themes, aiming to create a positive and informative view on topics often overlooked in mainstream media. In addition to I’ll Just Have Cats, Proctor has produced and collaborated on other short films, including AJAA, a documentary on family and cultural dynamics, and The Reality of RickySounds__, which follows the journey of a young independent musician. Her approach combines an educational focus with a compassionate, personal storytelling style, making her work impactful within both LGBTQ+ and wider social contexts.
